Old Skool Adverts--- Got a Favorite, Post it.

Great that Tomes is cycling along a straight road, because those Farmer Johns could not corner!

    1995 Dyna-Tech 755 Ti — Almost Immaculate!

Took the Dyna-Tech out for a 50k(ish) ride today around a nice not too hilly route I take fairly regularly. 23c tyres pumped up to 100/110psi F/R, and good to go. actually, it was all pretty smooth. Despite the roads being mostly quiet backroads with fairly ‘heavy’ tarmac and a few potholes...

    1995 Dyna-Tech 755 Ti — Almost Immaculate!

It has. I might even get out on it this weekend. Yes, it’s Ti main tubes bonded into lugs — pretty sure they’re aluminium though (thick walls anyway). The rear triangle is steel, FWIW. Hoping the noodly Ti tubes and steel rear offsets the bone shaking ride from 100psi 23c tyres!

    1995 Dyna-Tech 755 Ti — Almost Immaculate!

Bars now wrapped and NOS STI stickers attached. Bit of fettling to the headset and front hub and the bike is ready to ride. Just a shame is tipping it down outside right now! i‘ve used Cinelli black & white camo cork tape. It’s as close as I could get to the original black, white and grey cami...

    1995 Dyna-Tech 755 Ti — Almost Immaculate!

Fingers were okay, it’s more my eyesight these days. Think I’m going to need one of those big light/magnifying glass combo things you see old people use! I did consider the WD40 route, but figured Shimano used a light grease on the internals for a reason. Not that they’re going to get too much...

    1995 Dyna-Tech 755 Ti — Almost Immaculate!

Yeah, the RH shifter is even more complex This one took a bit more disassembly to get all the solid brown grease out. Careful laying out of the parts is key to being able to put it all back together again in the right order No parts left over!

    1995 Dyna-Tech 755 Ti — Almost Immaculate!

Been pretty busy with work, ferrying children around, various events and, well, just riding my bikes. However, I’ve been making progress... Stripped everything down and gave it a thorough degrease and clean. Really everything was in great condition underneath it all. Pretty much all the grease...

Dyna-tec frame failure caught on camera

Oof, makes me a little circumspect about riding my father’s old 755Ti once I’ve put it all back together. Now to find a fairly flat route to the nearest level crossing…

How much do you trust an old bike

It’s something I keep an eye on, and something I try not to think about when on the trails. I live near Bedgebury Forest, which has a relatively tame red route. I do it regularly on my Pace RC200, Orange P7 single speed and modern Planet X Ti gravel bike. All can handle it fine — I’m not as fast...

    1991 Merlin Titanium

Love the video. Need to try something like that on a couple of my builds. Gives me a reason to give them a proper clean too!

    1995 Dyna-Tech 755 Ti — Almost Immaculate!

At nearly 80 and with a heart condition, my father has finally reconciled himself with the fact he’s not going to get on his Dyna-Tech 755 Ti racing bike anymore (he still uses his steel Thorn tourer), so hooked it out of the garage for me to add to my retro MTBs. it‘s a little tired, covered...

I think dating your bikes is taking this Retrobike fetish just a little too far 😉

For Sale 1992 Marin Team Issue - SOLD

That is absolutely stunning. Sadly my ongoing desire to be married prevents me from buying the bike. But… if you do ever end up splitting it, can I put dibs in on the tyres? Cheers

A sense of inner peace - the paranoia of the retro build ...

More seriously… I’m not sure there was such a thing as a ‘catalogue spec’ bike 5 mins into ownership BITD. Everyone was into upgrading everything — especially if it came in trick anodised colours. I can see the appeal in the challenge of doing a catalogue build (and my Marin is only a couple of...

A sense of inner peace - the paranoia of the retro build ...

Retro air?! Now there’s a business model I could get behind. I could sell 2L bottles of the stuff on eBay. Just fill with regular air and add some lead, some CO2, and a few smoke particles for that genuine early 90s smell. Maybe even a dash of CK One. who wants one? 10 quid a bottle. 5 bottles...

Which was your first bike which actually worked?......

Came here to mention my ‘92 Marin Eldridge Grade, and see there’s loads of other mentions of Marins. Fair to say, they had some well sorted bikes at good prices in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s. Mine replaced my early splatter paint Carrera Krakatoa. It was too big, too heavy, and with some...
