Harry Hill's 1954 AS Gillott (Ron Cooper Frame)

Re: Brilliant, I am 100% sure that's the Gillott. That is certainly a Gillott headbadge. PM me your address on FB and I'll sort it out. I've been working on Val Baxendine's '55 Gillott. She finished second to Beryl Burton on several occasions. I agree, its great to know the history of a bike.

Harry Hill's 1954 AS Gillott (Ron Cooper Frame)

Re: 54 Gillott Keith is right re the cable stops. I think a Simplex or Huret helically operated mech might be more likely. I've asked Sand Dune for pics of the rear dropouts to see if there is a Simplex hanger still there. So many got cut off though. The frame is a genuine Ron Cooper built...

    Gillott track 1950's or earlier.

Re: Hi, how are getting on with your old Gillott frame? Jon is referring to the fact that after Edwardes cycles takeover in Feb 1963 batches of cheap gas pipe Carltons and later some Holdsworth Mistrals appeared in Gillott markings. To anybody with half a whit they are easy to spot as 'ringers'...

The Vectors have Vector 2 on the bar clamp. Frame is all ali and will polish up nicely as will the Vectors...

I get the picture. It doesn't mean a brew up on a ride is a bad thing. I like the expression "Drum up" and want to use it but without the connotations of dogma and traditions being sacrosanct to the detriment of progress. I welcome new ideas but enjoy couching them in nostalgia. We need to...

They used to say "Women for procreation, boys for pleasure but goats for ecstasy" so you may have something there. We are being herded off the subject.

What can be wrong with a cup in a nice spot while out on a bike ride? It's not as if you have to tie a goat to a tree and shag it before you're allowed sugar and milk? Cyclists and walkers have been doing it for years and I hope that it will carry on.

The old Rough Stuff boys were on skinny tyres. It just requires extra concentration to avoid the big stones. Slower speeds too. It's not about the speed but getting there. Thinking of a ride from Fortrose along the Eathie road, then the dirt road to Navity and then a walk down to McFarquhars...

Ok, I will go ahead with the Little Bravo. We meet by the Pumphouse in Strathpeffer at 10.30 for an 11.00 start. Lunch is booked at the Garve Hotel at 1.00. Route is via Loch Kinellan and the forestry tracks to the east of Loch Garve. Please ride an old bike and wear an item of tweed and/or...

It's less than a month away. Is anybody still keen to do the ride? I am thinking of knocking it on the head and just riding the Little Bravo to Garve for lunch and back.

Proposal for Summer Epic - Strathpeffer and Contin Area

Should we be concerned that the weekend 7-8th June 2014 is also the MTB World Cup down at the Fort?

I don't have a problem with that. I'm not expecting full Highland regalia on The Bravo so don't let that put you off. Just leave the Lycra and fluorescents at home.
