    Early Muddyfox Lovers Anonynmous

Hi with the owners permission i thought I would share this picture with you. It's an early Muddy Fox Courier with a BOB trailer attached for hauling loads. Midweek+020 the owner of the bike runs a blog called Coastrider. I've been following it for some time now and he builds and rides some...

The RB Official MTB Cycling Book Review Thread

No, I haven't read Mark Beaumont yet. But it's definitely on my to do list. Mark is a bit of a local lad and hero around these parts and some of my friends know his family. I was lucky enough to attend his seminar in Dunkeld last year and I can honestly say he is really down to earth and...

The RB Official MTB Cycling Book Review Thread

@ giom6. I read this on Kindle, but I'm sure it will also be available in "Tree Book" form. There is also a National Geographic DVD available. Although interesting I found the book a lot more detailed as Rob was doing the filming himself whilst cycling

The RB Official MTB Cycling Book Review Thread

I want to recommend a great book I recently read. It is about a journey that the author Rob Lilwal took on a 10 year old steel frame mountain bike. It took 3 years and 35000 miles. It is called Cycling Home From Siberia. If we had a MTB Hall of Fame here on Retrobike this guy should definately...

Wow, that's a fascinating frame and looks in great condition. You're welcome for the info, but i have to admit, it was the guys on this forum that gave it to me in the first place. What tyres did you go for? I've been looking at Schwalbe Road Cruisers with gum walls, but can't quite make up my...

    Sugino chainring question

Thanks for the link Archemist. But I ordered a new ring yesterday. I could have bought one anytime but I was too focused on trying to find one with ramps instead of coming on here and asking the question. You guys are brilliant Thanks

    Sugino chainring question

:D yes your honour I admit to being a pedant!!! The replacement parts on my bike are not neccesarily the original spec items, I'm not trying to build an original machine but have all been NOS parts by the same manufacturer. IE; Suntour, Epoch Mori etc I guess it's just an eccentricity. Thanks...

    Sugino chainring question

Hi bren Many thanks for the extremely quick reply. My outer has no ramps, so this could explain why after months of looking on ebay I've been unable to find one. Cheers John

    Sugino chainring question

Hi, I'm trying to find a replacement Sugino middle chainring but am unsure of what to get. At the moment I have Sugino VP cranks with Sugino 48t outer and Sugino 28t Cycloid inner but the middle has been replaced with a cheap unbranded 38t with ramps. Now I've spotted a few 38t Suginos on ebay...

Looks like a great find Technozen. Hope you have happy wanderings down memory lane. I'm finding stripping my bike therapeutic (have done it a couple of times now), and a great way to learn bike maintenance. I think I'm getting brave enough to try stripping the head set and bottom bracket next

Thanks for the info Archemist. Mine has riser bars with friction shifters, so maybe 86 is right Cheers

Hi Japee, Thanks for comments. You could be right about the age as the chap that sold it to me reckoned he bought it in 87. But when I cleaned it up, the number stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket read IH86-08-128970 so I was guessing it was earlier Cheers John

What's the attraction of Retro Bikes?

I guess I'm an "old fashion sort of guy" at heart. I love my old bike... my old car... my old wife! And in case you're reading this dear, not necessarily in that order :)

    S&G Araya Muddy Fox 1983/4

This really is a smart looking bike and I imagine also pretty rare. Can I ask what tyres did you fit. I love those gumwalls

Thanks for the welcome MADB. this thread is inspirational, there are some truly awesome MFs here & unfortunately, most of them (yours included) make my machine seem almost pedestrian. I'm just going to pop over to your thread and have another look at your bike now Cheers

1986 Muddy Fox by john millar, on Flickr I've been watching this Muddy Fox Anonymous thread for awhile now and thought it was about time I added some pics of my own. I bought my 1986 Courier, mostly complete, including original Branded pannier rack and saddle back in 2011 and it very quickly...
