Any obscure BB removal suggestions before I go the sledge hammer route??

If I now win the lottery I will start a magazine called Rusted Crap Quarterly, (that gave me my morning chuckle)….It would work, I can not resist rusted cheap crap, and I am not alone.

Any obscure BB removal suggestions before I go the sledge hammer route??

Generally I agree. I use heat if I can, or in extreme cases of rust drop said item in a bucket of phosphoric acid and come back a day later (don’t try this with alloy). Rust eaten, item free to move. I have been trying this mix with oils, and it works, but need to get atf (and something really...

Any obscure BB removal suggestions before I go the sledge hammer route??

You could try acetone/atf mixture. “In 2007 "Machinist's Workshop Mag. tm" published information on various penetrating oils including subjective tests of many of the popular penetrants. The following list is the results of their test with the control being the torque in- foot pounds required...

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

Hey Joe! It is annoying not knowing the bike! Can’t quite make out the name on the tube, this will bug me now, you have started something! Any other photos of mystery bike copy and paste them here! I have just read “Beryl” and was going to skim over it again for clues but since you are reading...

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

This photo is from wikipedia and it says it is from 1962. The down tube seems to have a face. Could it be Jacques Anquetil? I know she did have one of his frames, not the same head badge shape as your photo, but it is an idea.

    Claud Butler European 1959 transfers

Hello Peacy, thank you for your reply, https://nkilgariff.com/CBcats/Cat_59/CB1959_Cat.htm “The text implies that the Claud Headplate is already being fitted, though pics do not show it. The European looks to have a seat tube decal applied on the head tube, as on the very earliest Holdsworthy...

    Claud Butler European 1959 transfers

Thank you for the reply. I believe the “Rings” were 1961 according to https://nkilgariff.com/CBcats/Cat_61/CB1961_Cat.htm I did read somewhere that 1959-1960 had a CB seat tube badge used as a head badge, but unsure to which one. Does this mean it had a seat tube badge the same as well?

    Claud Butler European 1959 transfers

I think it will be the CB signature, but it was in flux in 1959 with who owned what name and seat post transfers as head badges. I am finding it difficult to find a photo of a European to check against. https://nkilgariff.com/ClaudButler.htm is excellent but the brochures are grainy in that period.

    Claud Butler European 1959 transfers

I have a 1959 European CB, that came to me as a frame and forks with a very nice blue paint job but no transfers, the catalogues on https://nkilgariff.com/CBcats/Cat_59/CB1959_Cat.htm are not clear enough for me to be confident in a “correct” or at least period set. No the seat is not staying...

    Claud Butler-Holdsworth frame numbers 1959-1976

For the data base. A 1959 European. Serial # 1004 (Frame & Forks). Bought as frame, forks, crank and wheels. The only thing that bothers me is getting the correct transfers, as the catalogues on line I can find are a bit grainy in this detail, anyone with a complete bike that can send me a...
