A little advice please re: purpled-up Kona Cinder Cone...

Well, Guybe, in honour of your faithful bidding I reckon I will let the auction run to the end. I've thought and thought about this damn/beautiful bike and realised that I do indeed need to pass it on as soon as possible. The current price isn't all that bad and hopefully more people with more...

A little advice please re: purpled-up Kona Cinder Cone...

Heh heh heh, that IS sneaky, GM, you devil! I'll see how things go. I've had a couple of new eBayers email me to ask if they can bid, so the interest is there, I hope! I really don't want to split it it up, not cos of the hassle, but it would be heartbreaking... Thanks for all your...

A little advice please re: purpled-up Kona Cinder Cone...

Hi gang, As you may have spotted I'm seeling this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=010 It's truly my pride 'n' joy and I kinda need to get a few quid for it BUT it's not generating too many bids so far. I was wondering what you guys think I should do: a) Risk...

What if Retro wasnt retro anymore? Would you still crave it?

Whoa, hold it there Tintin, it would be wrong to say modern MTB's are rubbish just cos you don't like them. I love retro bikes but modern bikes are bloody well'ard, suspension these days is quite incredible and disc brakes rool in the mud. I ride a singlespeed rigid Kona for a laugh in the...

What if Retro wasnt retro anymore? Would you still crave it?

Interesting stuff from Tintin and Hilts - it's definitely the retro bits and bobs that are the challenge - and the fun. Being able to just buy purple kit in my LBS would be great but kinda dull after a while. One of the reasons I'm selling one of my Konas is beacause it's 'finished'. I've...

What if Retro wasnt retro anymore? Would you still crave it?

We'd get all excited and WANT them (I mean want them BAAAAD...) but they'd be boutique, top end stuff. We'd talk about it a lot (I mean A LOT...) but not many would actually invest. For example, how many of us own a http://www.dekerf.com? They're "proper" steel bikes but they're kinda pricey...

    www.kona.dk - what happened?

Maybe it was because I only looked at it in the middle of the night to drool over old Konas but I definitely still have a Bookmark to www.kona.dk and remember it being the BEST site on the wuhwuhwuh for Kona info. Does anyone else recall this site? More importantly, does anyone have any idea...

FS: KONA CINDER CONE Purpletastic! (Splitting considered...)

Risky it may be, but low prices attract interest, people start bidding and then can't stop. It's a bit like heroin - "first one's free, mate". Well that's the theory anyway... Splitting is obviously the logical way to go, but I kinda want to see the bike kept as a whole. Perhaps the only...

FS: KONA CINDER CONE Purpletastic! (Splitting considered...)

Blimey, "vulture" is right! ;-) At the mo I'm wanting to sell it as a complete bike as collating the parts was a long & arduous (but fun) process, the aim of which was to create a 'whole'. Having said this, we'll see how things go... Oh yeah, have just done some budgeting and realise I...

FS: KONA CINDER CONE Purpletastic! (Splitting considered...)

Hi there! I've spent a few years building up a truly wonderful Cinder Cone dripping with all purple anodisation I can find. Delightful or disgusting? You decide! ;-) Pics, pics, pics: http://jawj.fotopic.net/c1284925.html It's beautiful but changes of circumstance mean it's seeking a...

    The 'Introduce Yourself Here' thread

Hello fellow classic bike pervs! I joined Retro a while ago but have only just got around to posting anything... I feel slightly young sometimes in here as a lot of the bikes people consider retro were made when I was far too young, and still very much living in my parents' pocket...

Inn-sewer-ants: to insure or not to insure?

Good points Kest. Bike insurance such as from British Cycling will cover your bike in a locked premises, when locked up outside with an approved lock during daylight (so not too specific then!) or if violence is used to obtain it, i.e. if some scally scum mugs you at a red light. That last point...

Inn-sewer-ants: to insure or not to insure?

You are both, of course, right, but it would kinda be like recieving compensation for a loved one lost - it just wouldn't take the pain away...

Spring 2007 RetroBike meet - Sat 24th March North Downs !!

Well that's a relief! I recieve MUCH ridicule for hunting down every last bit of X-Lite, Ringle, SRP and Hope purple anodising - maybe I've finally found my spiritual home... A picture will be duly posted once the bike is 'finished' (are they ever?) which should be VERY soon! The gallery is a...

Inn-sewer-ants: to insure or not to insure?

I use Pavillion Insurance who I found out about through British Cycling. They're premiums are less than 10% of the value of the bike (depending where you are...) and they seem geared up to deal specifically with bikes, which can't be bad. They're here...

Spring 2007 RetroBike meet - Sat 24th March North Downs !!

Cheers 'Roon! Wasn't sure if it was 'invite only'... I spend a lot of time hacking on my old Merlin (Cycles of Lancashire, not, sadly, the Ti kings) Cromo ('96) but my babies are my '97 Cinder Cone (so much purple anodising it hurts to look at...) and the '95 Orange P7 (survived being driven...

Inn-sewer-ants: to insure or not to insure?

Ah yes, the fine denizens of Retro Bike will be just the guys to ask... Do you bother insuring your retro ride? A flippant question but with a serious point. I have a couple of 'modern' bikes that would be costly to replace and so, given the high numbers of bikes thieved by scum in London...
