Ok, so now I'm seriously doubting my own reporting of the issue. I did manage to find the original cranks, but the mismatch in chainring spacing I was expecting isn't there. Switching from the Strongarms to Hollow-Techs did make a massive difference to the shifting though. Maybe it was a flex...

Re: It was one of Specialized's own, factory fitted from new. "StrongArm", possibly. Very deep arms when viewed from the side, but very narrow when viewed from above. Pretty sure I've still got them somewhere, so I'll get a calliper and/or camera on them later to quantify the mismatch in...

Frame (99 FSR) arrived spectacularly well packaged. Anybody buying from Matt can do so knowing that their item will be well prepared for it's journey through the postage/courier system! Very pleased with the whole transaction.

Re: In the "camera between the dropouts" shot, the lug on the main frame looks a long way from parallel to the forged end of the chainstays. If you're considering upgrading the link, I assume it must really be 100% straight, so is it just an illusion due to the lighting or being near to the...

I've provided Walter with scans of the Manitou, Fox and Specialized manuals, via PM. I did try posting them here, but the forum rejects .pdf or .zip files (and the page times-out if the upload isn't completed fast enough). Mods - is there a better way of adding this sort of content to the site...

"want" and "would reluctantly accept" are two distinctly different things. "Buy it now" definitely not an option, sorry. :wink: If maximising the selling price was the goal I'm fairly sure breaking it down to the component level would be the way to go, but I can't bring myself to "kill" it. :cry:

I'd never given it much thought (I'm new to selling on ebay) - since ebay don't automatically publish it, I'd assumed there was some good reason for keeping it private ("let the market decide" sort of thing). Like you said though, if it doesn't reach it, it doesn't sell. £80 is the reserve...

High enough that I wouldn't feel totally robbed if that's all it went for. Low enough that for the price of a pair of thumbshifters, a rear mech and the pedals it should sail straight past it. :wink:

Reluctantly but pragmatically I'm selling my old Stumpjumper Comp. This, in my eyes at least, is the last of the classic Stumpjumpers. If my recollection is correct, this is from the last year that a model this high up the range had all of these: steel framed fully rigid XT everywhere it matters...
