The French Connection... Japanese style (French-a-sonic?)

Hi gang, You know the story, you've just bought yet another bike you need about as much as another hole in the head. In this case the bike is a 1989 Custom Order Panasonic PICS frame with a full Dura Ace build. The odd part is that the name printed on the top tube is Philippe Lauraire. Now...

A rare non-Panasonic frame for me...

The importer for Atala was there in the NYC area (I forget the name) and I have heard that they were a fairly common sight in that area as a result. Of course, the Atala cycling team was also quite famous during the 80's. In the midwest U.S. where I grew up, I had never even heard of or...

A rare non-Panasonic frame for me...

It is very strange for me. I always wanted a nice Italian Columbus SLX tubed frame and I just happened to stumble across this one in an online classified. Atala is quite rare here in the States so it seemed like a great buy at the low asking price. I originally wanted to chrome the rear...

A rare non-Panasonic frame for me...

I would suspect your Atala shoes were related. Atala is a fairly large maker of bicycles in Italy although most were/are lower end. You worked at the U of MN? What did you do there? (And what kind of work were/are you looking for in the States?)

A rare non-Panasonic frame for me...

I picked this Atala frame and fork up nearly 5 years ago now and it was in rather sorry shape at the time. I had stripped the paint long ago but it just hung around in my storage room until a few weeks ago when I decided it needed some color. Before: Stripped: After...

    New arrival, Panasonic DX3000

Here is what the proper head tube decal would look like for your DX-3000 (albeit in black) The bike appears to be pretty nice and original aside from the saddle, tires, and head tube decal. It even has the original bar wrap from what I can tell. It looks as if your serial number begins...

U.S. Panasonic PICS Dealer Promo Video

I will admit that I was a bit surprised by the level of computer/robot assistance. I guess seeing "custom hand made" on the top tube of my bikes had me picturing an old smoke filled shop where a few 70+ year old frame gurus were building the frames. OK, so maybe not quite THAT...

    1987 Panasonic MC-6500

A few updated pics now that the bike is cleaned up and has a proper seat in place. Still waiting for a new chain and some paint touch up. It feels lighter than my '88 MC-5500 for sure. I rode it around a bit today after getting it all back together and it is pretty nice riding. I still...

Let's see your entire mountain bike collection...

I really think I need to get one of those bad a$$ Pace mountain bikes. I'm really loving them after seeing them in this thread. Added bonus, it would fit in with my "P" themed collection... Panasonic, Pinarello and Pace. hahaha

Let's see your road bike collections....

I can technically ride all of them although the '85 Team and '89 DX-1000 are too small for me to do long distances on. The DX-1000 is actually my wife's and she's owned it since new. I'm most comfortable on 56-58 cm bikes but 54-60 can be done for shorter stints. ;)
