Retrobikes or Retrobikers? Long post, please read

Interesting post Richard. I probably fit into the rider/builder category. My bike is far from shiny and has the scrapes of it's past etched into it's paintwork, but I keep it mechanically sound, and have made sure that all the components are true to it's build year. I bought it because after...

    Merckx Corsa SL teams

Like the Telecom very much. Was thinking of repainting mine, but I'm beginning to think that it's the only Corsa out there that isn't in Team colours :) Couple of other sources of colour schemes at Tears for Gears ( http://www.tearsforgears.com/2007/08/me ... bikes.html ) and Roadbikereview (...

    WHAT'S THIS? Maybe pre-1940??

Looks like a Rudge Ladies fast sports to me, but if it is the top tube has been replaced at some point. Rudge used pinned lugs on the tt on photos I have seen of the model upto the early 50's, and they appear have been cut out on your bike.

Raleigh 753 TEAM Banana Ex pro rider Resto complete

Re: Resoration Hmm, may be easy for you to say, but not everyone who doesn't restore is tight fisted - some of us are just poor you know. However, the classic motorcycle world also has the debate re patina versus restoration, and it's not true that all classic bike owners go for restoration...

ID and how much is worth this bike

Best place to look to ID the year is the bottom bracket, there should be two numbers. One gives month, year and frame size, the other is the serial number. If the bike has a heart shaped cutout on the BB it was made in Mexico in the 1980's, and Benottos from this era are regarded as having weak...

First stab at a restoration. Bought the bike for £5

Does it only occur when freewheeling? And can you feel it as well as hear it? My bet would be the freewheel ratchet if it only occurs when freewheeling, or the hub bearings. Bearings are easily fixed, what did they look like when you switched the axle round and did you clean and regrease them...

Difference between a compact crankset and a normal one?

I live in Sheffield and have the peak district for my training route. Campy 52/42 with a 12-26 rear does not make for an easy life. No cadence monitor, but I'm betting it's a bit low on climbs, and I fall over when I stall in clips :) May of course be a case of older rider trying to do what I...

Pro Cycling - what does the future hold?

Inclined to agree with David B on this one. Banks involved in sports sponsorship in the middle of a global economic crisis doesn't necessarily look good to shareholders and the non - interested majority. Having said that, and generally agreeing that this is an economically driven move...

    Sheffield Cycle Jumble

Curses, I'm away. Never seen the jumble advertised before, is it the first, and are you planning anymore? John

1991 Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra TSX

Surface grazing, no rust, not that bad imho and certainly not bad enough to justify a reprint. If I can match the colour then I'll probably do some touch up work.

1991 Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra TSX

No idea, stickers have been removed. Coating is a grey with a slight brown tint, and shiney, only Mavics I've ever had were darker, and satin rather than gloss. 2cm deep edge to centre. No matter, they track true and give a smooth, slightly firm, ride.

Merckx Corsa Extra in Team Panasonic Paint-new pic!!

Prettier than mine, earlier too, I'd guess, with the lugs for the cables on the toptube? Grats on the wheel building, I have done a couple of motorbike wheels, and it isn't easy. Do you have to allow for offset on the rear (ashamed to say I've never looked that closely at a roadbike wheel)?

    correct decals

They look like am tat to me; all the photos I've seen of steel framed Colnago's show the top tube without decals, and the colours are close but don't match the stripes I've seen on Colagno seat tubes, but I could easily be wrong.

1991 Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra TSX

Cheers nammonk - and thanks for the id on the c/s, I'm new to all these high end parts (well - they were when I was in my 20's :) ). Starting to see the point of them now, riding in the Peak district with a 53/42 needs smooth changing before the revs drop! Bike rides really well too, and steers...

    Hi all

John here from Sheffield. Just got back into road after 20 years, having got bored with how slow my mtb was. Looked at a lot of new alloy stuff, but finally decided I wanted something a bit like the Dawes 531 I had in the early 80's, so found an Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra TSX on ebay. Highly...
