old falcon 70's? 531 framed racer, any good?

I'm paying £57 pppw at the moment, but the landlord next year is after £75 which it certainly isn't worth. That link wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't with a child included, I'll be keeping an eye out every where and for anything though. Urgh, at least you can get dole, I'm on a 5 year course...

old falcon 70's? 531 framed racer, any good?

Yeah I thought about it but they've already had my rent. It wouldn't have been so bad if they'd installed the double glazing and replaced the boiler 12 months ago when they promised rather than doing them now for the next lot of tenants, absolute cow boy operation they've been. Being able to...

old falcon 70's? 531 framed racer, any good?

Yeah, I got raped by bills for this house, £400 water and £1600 gas and leccy so I'm effectively homeless till I can find a 1bed/bedsit somewhere cheap in the area, fat chance I know.

Hmmm, then definitely gimmie first dibs prior to ebay! I might just do that, I'm back home for a couple of weeks, when I'm back I'll make plans.

Well if you decide you'd like to pass it on along the line I'd be happy to take a look and see, I can always chuck a longer stem on it.

Ideally 57cm. I've a lot of love for pugs so it could well be a winner!

I'm still searching, yes. Ive my pug so i can afford to be picky for a good frame to appear at the right price, don't want to get stuck with a dud.

    Handlebars, Headset and Stem Help?

You'll need a new fork then, quill stems expand inside the stem locking everything in, modern headset dealies clamp onto the fork pillar.

old falcon 70's? 531 framed racer, any good?

Went back and talked myself out of it, back to the search, if anyone's interested as a project bike I could easily collect it, the parts really are an odd bunch which makes me think it's been a total build from scavenged parts rather than well loved.

    Handlebars, Headset and Stem Help?

If it's anything like my pug of a similar age both the quill and bars are of a non-standard smaller diameter the best bet would be first to check the dimensions using callipers and going from there.

I've already got a set of open pro's I was planning on using and some long reach weimann brakes but it's both cantilever and meant for 27"'s. I'll go back and take another look and see just what's doable and assess from there I guess.

Yeah that's the one in the red colourway, just noticed it's not 700c so it's probably a non-starter. Back to the drawing board I suppose. :?

Went back to measure the frame, the model is a Falcon Olympic, mean anything to anyone?

    Sacrilege or common sense?

It looks good, I can only really echo the comments earlier on the stem, for me though, it has to be downtube shifters every time, I can't stand modern brake level/huds/shifter combos, they're just plain 'ol' ugly.

old falcon 70's? 531 framed racer, any good?

They want £50 but I reckon I can easily get it down if I say about the useless seat and lack of pedals+ manky huds. It'd be the basis of a commumter/street whip I reckon, have it shot blasted and repainted and stick some modern rims on it, most likely open pros, possibly coldset the frame and...

old falcon 70's? 531 framed racer, any good?

Hello, I've come across an old Falcon 531 tubed bike in easily repairable condition, it's got some anomolous fixtures and has obviously been well loved, were the frames actually any good as the basis of a project or is it something I should just write off. As componentry goes, it has cinelli...

What's the "proper" way of deciding what size bike

Another good post, my old raliegh had the whole short headtube and was a much more uncomfortable ride than my pug. Is there such thing as a catalog of geometrys that work or a set that are proven good rides to help beginner builders or would that be simply pushing it too far?

Amusing listing for an old pug in Stafford.

When I'm back in Stoke I'll try and get over there then! I'm always on the hunt for NOS I can use!

Amusing listing for an old pug in Stafford.

I know the Pug you're on about, I have to admit I was caught out by it too, it's barely original, lots of scavenged parts, the person who owns it works in Urban Outfitters... There's plenty of them in Leeds all right, I'm in the "big rusty building" which is the arts block and it's swimming...
