    Dawes Galaxy Twin 1992

Cheers, yes, it really does ride like a new bike - pretty amazing for a 30 year old machine! My main stoker is my 12yo daughter. She complains of sore hands on her flat bar solo on a long ride so I decided to try drops for her. The variety of hand positions for her is going down well so far -...

    Dawes Galaxy Twin 1992

I just gave it a pre-spring strip and clean so thought I'd share. . . [edited from 1993 to 1992 after looking at an old catalogue] 1992 Galaxy Twin, 21"/19", Shimano XT 3 x 7 speed, acquired a couple of years ago and used by myself and my wife/daughters. Wheels upgraded in the 1990's to 48h...

1993 Dawes Galaxy Twin tandem - BBs?

My BBs are getting a bit rough - does anyone know whether they are just normal English threaded bottom brackets or something more specialised? I appreciate that the stoker BB is in an eccentric shell and that it has quite a big Q factor (due to having cranksets on both left and right) which...

Fixing clip for old 105 brake lever

Re: Wow, kerching indeed! Thanks, does it just need an m5 bolt or do you have that too perchance? Is the square nut with it? Shall I pm you with my address etc?

Fixing clip for old 105 brake lever

Does anyone have one of these lying around or attached to a useless lever? I have a pair of 1985 levers I was about to fit and realise one of the fixing clip/clamps is missing. Many thanks!

Re: Many thanks! I was thinking 48 34, yes, I see spa sells them for about 20 quid. Great!

    Chainring advice

I'm looking at a tandem and wanted to know if I can get hold of replacement chainrings, specifically to get smaller rings than currently. The exisiting rings on the Stronglight crank are 50-38 I think. The BCD looks small but I'm unsure what it is. The small ring may fit to the rear of the...

    Rear dropout stop nut/bolt

Do any of you folks have a pair of these lying around? My dropout screws seized in solid and I had to drill them out with a 3.5mm bit. I'm not bothered about re-tapping and wondered if I could just use one of these nut/bolt things that the cheaper bikes used to have. Any help appreciated...

    'winter' tyres?

When it's subzero I do my rural commute on Schwalbe Marathon Winter tyres, avaliable in 700c or 26". I wouldn't ever consider frost/ice riding without studded tyres. They work fine off road too. Cheapest place and great service is bikediscount.de.

    Thinking about STI's...

Just to jump onto this thread if I may. . . I have a 7 speed freewheel (not cassette) and am planning to get a modern 8 speed STI lever (Shimano Sora) and wondered if that would index with my seven sprockets? Reading the above it seems like a "maybe" but it'd be great to have confirmation.

Dipping my toe in... Not retro!

Good bikes. I ride a Cube Streamer 2011, same frame as yours, with Ultegra/105 and handbuilt wheels. More comfy frame than you might expect, great for all-day Sportives and such like. If you enjoy it as much as I do you'll be a happy bunny!
