    Viking Ian Steel.

Thanks. I'd forgotten about this thread, it's nearly 3 years since the last reply! To be honest I haven't ridden this for a couple of years as the rear wheel is slightly out of true and I haven't got round to fixing it. It has the original spokes and I'm torn between replacing them or not...

    Any decent late 80's Peugeots?

Just a quick note about Peugeot frames. Some of them have a 24mm seat post and they are virtually impossible to find nowadays. I know you're looking for a complete bike but just in case you were tempted by a project bear that in mind. Also, I have recently been riding a 501 framed bike for work...

TGR, your interest in this is appreciated but don't forget there are two victims in this. I paid hard earned money to a shop for this bike which I potentially might not get back. Be patient and let us get on with it and we/I will update as and when possible. Ian.

    (Not so) Freewheels

Yes That definitely sounds like my world too. Whenever I do a job that requires tools I always allow double the time I think I need. The first half is spent finding the tools! The second half doing the job and drinking coffee. Then my least favourite part, putting the tools in a place where I...

    (Not so) Freewheels

I know this thread was a while ago now but look what I found. I was trashing some old floppy discs before I threw them out and these fell out from under the metal sliding bit. Not saying they will fit anything but they might make a good start if someone needed to make a new pawl spring for...

Just thought I'd better point out that it was me who listed it on ebay. I have withdrawn it from sale and contacted smallrider about it. I bought it from a shop in Blackpool so hopefully this will get sorted without me being out of pocket! Ian.

Raleigh special Products Division Reynolds 853. 51cm 20"

Turns out I have bought a stolen bike so have withdrawn it from sale and contacted the owner who is another Retrobike member. I bought from a shop in all innocence and I still have my receipt so hopefully I can get my money back. Ian.

The RB Official Road Cycling Book Review Thread

I was in Poundland in Birmingham yesterday (the one by the train station) and came across a book called "Bikie" by Charlie woods. Was on a 2 for £1 deal and they had quite a few copies. Looks good so far but have only read the first chapter. £7.19 at Amazon...

    Today's freebie barn find.

The SA hub will almost certainly have the date stamped on it. It will appear as two numbers, something like 92 9 which would be september 1992.

    Bottom Bracket Oil Port

A Google of Oil Hole Covers took me straight to The Nipple Shop  But it is actually what you're after and they're based in Bolton. It never occured to me that these things would still be available so it's very good to know. They may have minimum orders though but as they are in...

I think I meant left hand thread  . My Atom freewheel unscrewed by turning it clockwise. I just wondered it BobToo also had a left hand thread without realising it and had broken it because of that.

Waaaaaay off topic! Some precisions had a shielding plate under the pickup. My Tokai has brass ones. Earthing each pole piece sounds a right palaver, there has to be an easier solution than that. Is your bridge earthed? Bought mine in early 1981 but it's actually a 1979 model. Bright yellow...

    (Not so) Freewheels

Ooh, good use of the castor cups there! My freewheel is different to that in that the springs aren't held in with anything other than their own springiness, a bit like a pair of sugar tongs in miniature if you can see what I mean. A wire spring would have nothing to hold it in place in mine...

LOL. The pick up on one of my bass guitars is adjusted by springs from ball point pens!
