Mine creaked too. Grease and tighten, wait a few months and repeat. Sorted. Then the creak changed and it turned out to be the bottom of the seat tube - see my avatar :(

Boring brass for longevity. But Spline Drive Al if you can get them and find a wheel builder with iron thumbs - using the supplied spoke key is a killer and the workshop tool was quite expensive.

Threaded steel rod, 3 nuts and big washers, plus wood (MDF or high density plastic) with holes drilled - nearly instant headset press. Oh and two big spanners! Use a keyhole saw fitting for drill to get bits of wood to fit inside headset cups and so centre the whole affair. Crude but...
