Raleigh bottom bracket and shell, I'm puzzled.

Hi Keith, I've discounted the shell, cotter pins are tight, I must have two buckled chainwheels now :? Time to get the hammer out then. :D

Eleven per side. The thing is the new chain ring is showing the same buckle as the old one , unless it's a coincidence, which made me think bottom shell or cups.

Re: Just thinking about it... wear in the cups?

Raleigh bottom bracket and shell, I'm puzzled.

Re: Sorry I'll change the posting  The buckle or out of alignment is still the same. No noises, spins nicely.

Raleigh bottom bracket and shell, I'm puzzled.

This has got me scratching my head. I've been refurbishing my Raleigh Twenty and have come up against this problem. The original chainring, cranks, worn bearings or even the axle indicated something was buckled, couldn't quite fathom it out. No problem I thought as I was doing a full...

    First resto, Carlton International.

Nice, Paint doesn't look too bad. You'll be surprised how well it will clean up with some tin foil and WD40 or water, Autosol, wire wool and maybe some wet and dry.

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

Re: Age, did someone mention age :D I reached the big 60  in April. Am I doomed to the oldies scrapyard drinking cocoa and reminiscing about the black and white days, to be pushed aside by 30-40 year olds. I don't think so :D I was "lucky" enough to ride a blue BSA in the 60's...

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

Wish I'd kept my old Kona's and Marins, didn't realise how much they go for now, particularly Konas, the inflated prices have put a lot of nice older bikes out of peoples reach. And the fixie fad , really cranked up the price of ordinary frames.

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

I've only been on here for a couple of months, but I see this happening on the fishing forums I'm a member of. Summer is quiet, all out fishing or on holiday, winter is cabin fever time. Ony got back into proper riding after a lay off of quite a few years and drifted away from a high tech...

Sorted - 21" frame ,nothing fancy

Looking for an early steel 21" frame and rigid forks with horizontal top tube, prefer with forks and BB, but not essential. Scratched and scruffy no problem, just no damage. Have a few bits and pieces lying around and plan to build up a cheap runabout. Thanks

Any tips for telling whether a crack is the paint or metal?

That looks likes an undercut weld to me , repairable if you have a fabricator friend and the weld width is not too great. Don't want to ring alarm bells but I had a Kona Lave Dome fail in the 90's at the head tube, hit a bump and the forks just folded due to the head tube weld fail. I still...

Raleigh flyer seatpost diametre and downtube size?

Re: Ah, The Raleigh Flyer. I had one when they first came out, way, way back in 1973, bright pinky purple and yellow 5 speed, rode it into the ground. I noticed that frame on fleabay, sorry can't help on sizes.

    Road bike advice

Re: That's a very nice bike. My Kona was a bit OTT for the trails I was riding with my better half, so I decided to make it more for light trails and road use. All I did was change the forks and pedals ,sold them, put on some skinny tyres, changed the pedals to flats, added some cheap bar...

    Road bike advice

Re: What mtb do you have. This is what I did with my forks. On One forks, steel cromo not carbon and skinny tyres. I still need to fit some mudguards. I did a few more mods to make it more light trail and road use friendly. The forks cost about £70. Myself personally I would never use...

Many Thanks Mr W, I thought you might be able to help :) I prefer the claret colour myself.

    Raleigh Routier Re-Born

Re: Just re visiting this one. I know the Routier is a low, mid entry, but I like it, it doesn't seem to appear in any catalogues from the 80's that I can track down, which is a bit odd. The town and around catalogue bikes are more sedate with flat handlebars, just wondering if anyone has...

Raleigh Clubman paint question (pic added)

Re: I'm not sure if it's the same shade of red / claret on the Clubman, but in the Routier reborn postings Humbrol crimson enamel seemed to be a good match.
