    Rechargeable Lights

NiCad can be discharged, but do not discharge the lead acid (Sealed Lead Acid[SLA]). They should always be stored with a charge. If they are allowed to discharge, you will loose capacity. The following reference states to not store them longer than 3-months...

    Chainstay UBrake.. Why??

My first real mtb was a 1987 Bianchi Forte. I still remember the salesperson telling me the U brake was much stronger on the chain stays than on the seat stays. All the drawbacks Sheldon mentions are true, but there is more. My Bianchi had semi-horizontal rear drop-outs. On severe cranking...

Thought I would share this retro beauty....

Ohh the memories. I rode one of these in 1993, I think. Someone had one on a group ride and we all tried it. It was on the MacKensie River Trail in Oregon. First impression was that it moved a lot laterally. Thunderchild

    Paul Thumbies

I have never seen the Paul Mt. Thumbies up close. Does anyone run these? If so, do they have a four pin mounting pattern similar to the Shimano 7-speed XT and DX thumb shifters. If they do, I want to find the diameter of that 4-pin circle. XT and DX have a 4 pin diameter of about 23 mm...

    Fun picture of the day

I remember seeing one in California at a MTB race in 91. It had a Tioga disc wheel on the back. I would love to have one now. Any Trimble owners here? What is your biased and unbiased opinions about them. Thunderchild

Top mount Shimano thumb shifters info

Thanks XEO. Was trying to place a year on them. I started mtbing in 1987 and could not remember seeing any LX mountain that looked alot like their big brothers, XT and DX. I do remember those LX units that had smooth plastic tops. I will post a picture soon. Thunderchild

    Have I Imagined Reflex MTB's from 1988?

I remember seeing a few and wondering how the gluing would hold up. Especially as I rode my cr-mo lugged miyata mtb around. I had a pair of Reflex downhill ski poles years ago. Same company? Thunderchild

Top mount Shimano thumb shifters info

This may be old news? But I thought I would pass on some thumb shifter info. No one on VATB had an answer. I happened upon three brand new 7-speed LX Mountain Shifters without the clamps. Shimano part number: SL-M453R. They are 7-speed with the extra 8 space. I thought they would fit...

Any idea what year this MB-2 Brigestone is?

One of my projects. My guess is it is an 86 or 87. It is a lugged frame with nice metal cable guides and has a chain stay mounted rear brake. It is a bright green with yellow fork and matching yellow stem. Not sure how to post a picture. Can I paste it into the email or do I need it on...

    New to list

Well, I feel that I have found my second or third home. I have endured many a confused looks over my 7-speed thumbies, and all of my other old-school addictions. Could it get better? When I saw the T-shirt with the thumb shifter on the front, I knew I had finally found Nirvana. I have...
