Interesting to finally get these things stripped and cleaned.
Everything came to bits as planned, thanks again for the advice, and it revealed a few deviations form what was expected - I assume form the previous owner of the forks from 10 or so years ago!
There were no top-out cores, although...
Thank you kindly Mr Ox - we're eating out tonight, quite excited as first time in a while, but will try get back on these tomorrow and let you know how things pan out!
Well, haven't been on here for years - but having my full suss stead stolen by some scumbags I thought I'd dust down my old Orange Elite and ride out with my youngest. Had a few good rides, but the RC35s are definitely in need of attention - they weren't the best to start and I think the wet and...
Someone must have a spare lying around ...
I want to convert to V-brakes on my work horse so that I can stop quicker when the cars attack me

OK - I've taken your input on board.
The steerer is fully inserted - if I take it out slightly the crown and steerer are true!!
Looking at the ring on the bottom of the steerer ii goes almost all the way around - looking at the ring on another (1 1/8") steerer I have the ring only goes 3/4...
Hi. Yup these are RC35s, my bad - title changed :)
I have the shim, it's an issue between the steerer and crown - of the 1.25" variety.
You can see in the below pictures - not very good but my mobile is all I have to hand at the mo.
Managed to collect all the parts I need. Finally found the time to build these and hit a hurdle at the very start.
Steerer in crown - OK
Attach headset spacer - UH-OH!! :(
The spacer does not sit true, obviously because the crown steerer interface is somewhat skewed. Removing...
Received yesterday - had a great read through with a glass or two of the old vino.
Fast turnaround and a great service - have an up on me.
