    British Eagle Pro-Carbon project

So, what are the chances… I was walking my dog on the Malvern Hills today and whilst munching on a protein bar spotted a chap on a Pro Carbon bike. After gaining his attention it turned out to be Dirt Disciple! Made my day and was great to see another Pro Carbon being used, still looking good...

The threads would be on the outside, with internal matching threads in the Ally lugs, so your unlikely to feel them. The Alan’s were threaded LH & RH so that they’d pull in both lugs (with matching threads) along with adhesive to prevent unwinding. I’d guess ours just have shoulders on the...

Great investigative pics and the older one looks like a copy of a traditional steel BB shell set up... but being Ally has obviously worn more with cables. I wonder if that nasty crack could have been caused by vaulting/landing on a log? Or I remember that I bought a clamp/strap-on chainset...

Can’t imagine the carbon would be threaded as that would be rather tricky to mould in or die cut!

The Alan’s were glued and screwed (Apparently). Of course threading a thin aluminium frame might weaken it too - especially over time with work hardening/glue ageing etc. But the Pro Carbons, I think, we’re made in the Far East and imported via mid Wales... again I think.

Here’s my original receipt - paid by cheque (naturally)!

My ALAN frame ended up in the skip (such a shame). Heard many scary stories about their Ally front fork dropouts snapping off - yikes! But they did look vulnerable - so I swopped mine out for steel (not so cool looking but safer). As you guys say our Pro Carbons are hardly super lightweight so...

True, I suppose some serious front end shunting could pull the lugs off the top tube+. Still modern carbon frames are susceptible to ‘catastrophic failure’ too... carbon eh! I was planning on loading mine up again for a bike packing tour of Scotland. Maybe I’ll stick to the roads (less shocking)...

Ah I did wonder about that - had an ALAN racer that snapped clean through under the front mech band due to severe frame flex and work hardening (not gardening!!). Mine’s still in storage but your post jolted me to get the decals sorted out. Where have these failed then?

Looking good ! I’ve ridden mine hard (well quite hard!) Why most likely a death trap - are you worried about the Alu work gardening or the adhesive or...?

Re: That would be great. Also do/did you folks go to the Iconoclassic Retro MTB Bike Show st Warwick? I showed my Pro Carbon Bike there about 3 yrs ago (no others there at the time).

Hey. A bit late joining this forum/thread, but I have a Pro Carbon too. Had it from new (1992) and it cost around £800. Oversized tubes, XT groupset and cable guides are on the top! Was wondering where you got your decals from as 1992 me peeled them off! I’ve ridden it, raced it, toured off...
