    Max 5nm - do you?

The practice of marking torques on parts is relatively recent, it seems to me (recent by the standards of this forum, anyway, s0, 21st century). I always assumed it was a way to try to limit manufacturer liability. "Oh, your handle bar slipped and you fell? Did you tighten all four bolts to...

    Max 5nm - do you?

Torque to the spec'd value. 5nm is not much but small bolts aren't rated much more than that anyway, in terms of their normed torque rating, so its easy to over tighten. I use a torque wrench, primarily on crank, bb, and chainring installation. Gives me peace of mind. I got a topeak twisty one...

    2019 v 1986

Hey, did you know that the ATB is actually all new and totally different than the thing it was copied from? https://bikepacking.com/plog/atb-manifesto/

    2019 v 1986

The difference is that one still has available replacement parts after nearly 40 years. The other, i give it under a decade.

    1989 Diamond Back Apex build

I had good experience with a deckas ring too. I doubt it is 7075 like they say, but maybe I am too skeptical. It's held up well enough and the price was right

    Very unusual bike

Very interesting. It looks like the seat tube joint is on bearings, that's commitment to detail, for sure!

Cantilever bolts …did I miss the memo?

That's the sort of number they like :) I'll let you know.

Cantilever bolts …did I miss the memo?

Is this what you are after? With chrome bolt and black washer? I checked and the heads are wider and taller a lot of the bolts available on the interwebs. I have a specialty machine hardware store near me, i might be able to drop in this week and see if they can match them to some EN bolt...

    Cunningdale Plan B

Nice work using the yellow to draw the eye around the bike. Those rims with that stem is no nonsense.

Cantilever bolts …did I miss the memo?

Do you mean something like this, although it would need to add a washer. Link is to a german shop but the shimano part number is there for both long and short versions, so you can find it locally...

    Bicycle registration

We have insurance specifically for our cargo bike. Granted the thing cost more than a lot of used cars . . . But telling perhaps is that the insurance doesn't require police registration, but rather a GPS tracker, the use of a lock from a list of approved ones, and that the bike needs to be...

    Bicycle registration

Sounds like a horrific experience, sorry. It does drive home that stickers as (not so effective) deterrence, locks as (somewhat) useful at keeping your bike where you parked it, and actively being assaulted and robbed are really different things. On stickers, i don't think they would serve to...

Litespeed Ocoee 1995 - Gravel conversion.

There is a sticky thread with all the "show me ..." Threads listed somewhere. Took me a while to find them at the beginning. Edit, but its always good for a bike to have it's own thread too, of course!

Litespeed Ocoee 1995 - Gravel conversion.

There is a thread, if you are interested, where some other conversions have been collecting... It's sort of a de facto "show me" thread. https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/has-anyone-built-a-gravel-bike-using-a-retro-frame.400408/ I think one thing that is interesting is how fluid the...

    Bicycle registration

I do think the weak point on all these u locks/bike locks im general is the lock itself. The u can be super thick, the crossbar can be armored, but if the lock cylinder can be tapped open, forget it. I have caught myself thinking this way, but so many people hesitate to spend 50 Euro on a lock...

    Bicycle registration

...or if people learn from this guy. Cutting and grinding is so yesterday, all you need is the latest precision lock picking tool and a lot of practice: https://youtube.com/c/lockpickinglawyer He pops open Kryptonites in about a minute without scratching the plastic:

    Bicycle registration

And that would be some serious cutting equipment... Thing with any sort of security tech is it becomes an arms race between locks and cutters. There will always be some new tool to cut or pry with, and that doesn't even address the problem of the locks just getting picked. I got an Ongaurd...
