I have for sale a pair of Deore DX Thumbies that came with a 94 Lavadome I aquired recently but don't really need them as I already had some XT's. They are in generally good condition apart from the writing on the right hand lever has worn off and there are a few bits of rust on the clamp but...

Right, not much to update but here goes. After some trouble with the BB and with some good advise on here the frame is now bare. I have contacted a few powder coaters in my area and they are reasonably priced and have had experience of bike frames before. I wasn't going to get it re-coated...

Man 1 bb 0!!! I took all your advise and got the bb off this evening. I sprayed it for the last few days with plusgas, bolted my tool on and turned it in a vice and off it came first time! Propper happy! Again, thanks all for the advice.

Cheers Highland i'll have a look for that. The engineers where I work have a tool that they say could punch the axle out if I can't get it moving. Hopefully that wouldn't damage the frame.

No I didn't soak it. Its the first time I have tried to remove one so didn't really think about soaking it. I will before I try again. Is WD40 the best to use?

Right, done a bit of digging and checking the spec and the original BB was a Shimano LP 20 which as far as I can find on the net, went in with the cartridge on the left (non drive side?) as mattbrown said. So if this is the case and to help me not turn it the wrong way, am I right in assuming...

I know. Not happy about it at the moment. He said to try knocking the axle through or maybe heating it.
