I think I need to start with a rubbing compound of sorts first, there's a lot of crackling on the surface. I picked some up today, will try that then some autosol and see how that goes to start with. Did you laquer over the top after or leave after polishing?

I love this thread, you've done a great job. I've picked one of these up myself the other day and about to start cleaning and polishing tomorrow. What did you use to get it so mirror like?

I wasn't sure either to start with but it just works. I wanted something a bit different which is exactly what I got 😂

Not holding up great at all to be honest, any slight touch ends up in a chip or mark, it's like it's painted with butter. The bike looks great and I'm over the moon with how it's turned out on the whole and just have to accept that I'll be respraying at some stage.

If I were you I'd measure the chain for stretch first. If it's not showing much wear then generally speaking the cassette and front chainrings will be okay and won't need changing. You can get new unused XT 9 speed derailleurs on here and on eBay etc which would be more cost effective. Hope...

Took your advice and fitted this lovely 9 speed wide range 11-42 cassette on the weekend. Gear change is really smooth but it's a bit loose gripping the teeth on the free hub, price you pay I suppose. Only other issue is I can't change in to top two gears as the derailleur is catching so need...
