Glad I wasn't the only one to spot it was a '92 frame, not a '91. Also has threaded holes in the dropouts (for mudguards? a rack??) which mine doesn't. And of course, being '92 it should have M900 XTR not XT...!

Just to follow up on this, I fitted a used Shimano 8-speed cassette to the Xizang, and it was shifting better with the SunTour thumbshifters than the new SRAM cassette. Also confirmed that my mate who tried a similar set-up and couldn't get it to index was also using a SRAM cassette. Very much...

Looking for a clean / VGC SRAM Betsy rear mech as the pièce de résistance of a very special eclectic build for my wife. Don't really want NOS because of the £££ and because this will be a rider not a garage queen. Someone must have one they can part with?

Never had wear problems myself with the proper SunTour plated steel inner rings, similar to Sakae Ninja. I would imagine alloy wouldn't last long...

As title, would include U-brake bosses and lightly used XT U-brake. One water bottle cage bolt socket missing. Generally very good condition, a little chainsuck rash, no original decals.

Pooooosibly, but I'd have thought a new SRAM chain should shift okay with a new SRAM cassette, which is what I was using. Cassette wear usually leads to worse shifting with a new chain, not better... Fortunately, HG-51 8-speed cassette are all of a tenner from Chain Reaction :D

It's the same with the 8-speed XT rear mech I swapped to, but yes, they were both 11-32 cassettes.

Yeah, but the really odd thing is that swapping to a Shimano cassette - which should have exactly the same cog spacing and thickness - appears to solve the issues. I will be testing at the weekend, but assuming the Shimano cassette is okay, it must be down to the different tooth / ramp shapes on...
