    Can anyone identify this Robert's?

Over bb guides with top tube guides sort of put it late 70's to early 80's.... As its a touring machine it has the earlier long rear dropouts rather than the shorter portacatena dropouts. Smartly made, neat shore lines as mentioned plus italienate seat cluster which was used higher up the frame...

    Beautiful but ridiculously priced Scapin

Don't come across many 116 BCD Nuovo Gran Sport chainsets.... For the finish on the frame I would have expected the kit to be higher up the campag food chain

    Joe Vaugh R653

That's nice and unfussy, can only see one downtube lever so probably someone's TT bike from BITD unusual to have over BB cable guide. Waugh did some nice frames.

Wanted French threaded freewheel 6 or 7 speed Steel or alloy

There's always Hilary Stone, usually has the odd French 6 speed in

    5 speed freewheel query

Maillard went up to 7 iirc. Hopefully the OP isn't running a thinner Ultra chain or similar that won't run on 5 speed. The other issue is running a "block and chain" that haven't worn together

Yep, just remember to adjust the rear mech before you set off :)

    1976 Sid Mottram project

Very nice :). Good to see a front mech close to the outer ring teeth where it should be :)

    Shimano 600 arabesque chainline issue

I would have plumped for an Italian 113 for that, the 119 was for the later 600EX?

    Reynolds 531sl or 531???

Raleigh used a special lightweight paint for their hour record bike...... Also appeared on some of their SBDU TT frames allegedly. Was a gold coloured lacquer. If you looked carefully you could just about see through it. Didn't help Schuiten though :)

    Raleigh Classic query

Welcome :) Nice bike. I think e Classic would be classed as a light tourer (or demi course in old language) and would therefore use 531 or its, later incarnation 531c. Principally as the Classic frame would be used for other road bikes under a different name. Think Carlton corsair which...

    Nothing wrong with the combo, 27 x 1 1/4 I guess :)

Used to do a fair number of circuit / Kermesse racing around East Park in Hull BITD. There was an awkward corner just before the finishing straight, that coupled with the usual switching /trying to change gear usually meant there were regular crashes so was a popular spot for spectators!!!

Hoping to pick up a 70s Carlton tomorrow.....or at least I think it is? 😁🤦

1968-72 Carlton where the numbering system went pants! In between the original Carlton numbering of a letter / digits and the Raleigh bean counters numbering of W-month-year-serial

    Very nice Roberts frameset

Classy looking frame. Slightly odd to have over bb cable guides yet internal routing in the top tube.

Hoping to pick up a 70s Carlton tomorrow.....or at least I think it is? 😁🤦

I think the un chromed version of the frame was the pre Crespera lugged Continental
