    IDing Faggin frames

Thanks, I guessed it was one of the more ‘robust’ tubesets, but didn’t know they used Oria as well. It has no chrome and the paint is tatty - not worth a resto job. - will become a beater.

    IDing Faggin frames

I just picked up a very cheap and very tatty bike. The frame is Faggin - pantographed on the seatstay caps and bottom bracket, with an 'F' cutout in the (ordinary looking) bottom bracket, and little 'f' cutouts in each lug. 130mm rear spacing, d/t shifter bosses and under stay cable routing...

Help Identifying 90s Road Frame w. Ritchey Logic Tubing

How do you know what tubing it is?

What is the best groupset over the past 25 years (1998-2023) in your opinion?

Dura Ace 7700. After that, Shimano chainsets get progressively uglier - first with the 7800 being so 'bulbous' in the middle, and then moving to 4 bolts, and the final nail in the aesthetic coffin being assymetrical 4-arm. If it weren't for the chainset, I might say 7800.

    Columbus MAX or Reynolds...?

Ah, yes, the 'new' Max tubing - forgot about that. I don't of anyone who's used it. Not sure why Grandis would make their own - either, like you say, it wasn't available, or they are making to a slightly different specification (probably with some claims as to its superiority). It's worth...

    Whats this strange bicycle part

This looks a lot like the clamp used to hold a coaster brake arm, such as a Shimano Nexus hub. They are sometimes different shapes, to account for chainstay shapes.

    Columbus MAX or Reynolds...?

'OverMax' is simply Columbus Spirit that Grandis have ovalised themselves. It's not a Columbus tubeset per se, more a modification of one of theirs, a bit like how companies would 'flute' Columbus tubes back in the 80s (to look like Columbus's own Gilco G4).

    Columbus MAX or Reynolds...?

Max has elliptical (oval) tubing - vertical at the front of top and down tubes, and horizontal at the back end of the tubes. Plus oversized chain stays. It had no comparison at the time, though many people copied it. I don’t think there is a Reynolds equivalent - Max has a cult following and...

    Shimano 1055 & Shimano 105SC (1056)

I am talking about 105 SC, rather than the earlier 1050 (the 6 speed, later 7 speed, that I had on my first proper bike), or the even earlier 105 Golden Arrow.

    Shimano 1055 & Shimano 105SC (1056)

1055 and 1056 are the same groupset. 105x is all 105SC - the first iteration was 7 speed, then 8 speed, which updated the derailleurs and shifters (1056 not 1055), but not the brakes. The triple components are named 1057 - not newer, just a variation. The biggest change was the rear derailleur...

    Old Italian Columbus frame!

It's not Gilco tubing, it's regular Columbus pipes that someone has fluted, after purchase. I've seen quite a few frames with fluted tubes, including one which seemed to be fluted SLX. My guess would be that anyone can flute tubes after they've bought them from Columbus (if they have the...

    Columbus MAX or Reynolds...?

That is a beautiul frame - love the colour. Is there any reason you have mounted the downtube cable guides upside down?

    Old Ribble frame

Could be 653? That’s lighter than 531 or 531 Pro. I had a pink/purple Ribble 653 that I sold - still regret selling it to this day.

Wanted Shimano 600 Tricolour 8 speed brifter

I have ‘fixed’ dozens of pairs of brifters, by taking them apart (not All the way) and soaking/cleaning them. There has only been one set that couldn’t be fixed. YouTube has lots of videos showing how to dismantle them.

    Fondriest Model?

My money is on that being an OverX. It's fully chromed, which most OverX's I've seen are (they normally have chromed head lugs and rear triangles, and paint or cromovelato over the rest. Stick your fingers into the inside of the downtube (via the bottom bracket) - if you feel ridges round the...

Help please! - Alternatives to 7sp Suntour Accushift Plus freewheel

I've contacted someone here, who might have a Suntour one that won't cost more than the bike! Problem with eBay is that I live in Denmark, so that one you shared, would have nearly £40 added in postage, duty and taxes. Even more if PostNord decide to open the package to check it!!

Help please! - Alternatives to 7sp Suntour Accushift Plus freewheel

Wow! That's quite the read! It's the generation before my stuff, but much applies - including the bit on page 6 about freewheel spacing - which is where Shimano and Suntour differ. I guess I will just have to play about until I find something that works. As it's a complete groupset (minus the...
