Tange 5 is a plain guage chromoly, sort of 501, but drawn not seamed and gives a nicer ride than 501. It's not light but would stand up to touring / commuting and do it very comfortably. Tange prestige and tange 1 & 2 are the high end butted tubings , standing head to head with Reynolds and...

I picked up a similar frame from the Falcon stable of marques. The guys on here helped me identify it. The Falcon factory suffered a couple of fires and outsourced frames for a while from Japan. Japanese framemakers had a bit of a peak from late 70's to mid eighties before the yen crashed and...

Your frame is one of the batch made under contract by the Miki factory in Japan going by the serial number. April 1983. The tubing is tange 5 and good build quality.

Other than the top of that right hand rear stay looks like it should be quite sound under the paint.

Re: Update for peops following this thread. I started doing a dry assembly on the Corridore to try it for size and it seems that like mars bars, inches were much bigger in the 50's :| The stand over height with 700's was giving me a serious wedgie and I imagine that with 27's it would be...

Once I've finished paint stripping the frame, just got chainstays left to do, and inspected it properly, the plan is to throw some components on it and see how I like it to ride. It's 21 1/2" frame which is at the top end for me at 5'6", and with the very generous clearances it's a very tall 21...

Re: I paint stripped the forks and gave them a light blasting to lift out the corrosion, they've come up quite well. I'm reluctant to blast the frame though, the tubing is so thin. I don't know how many coats of paint were on the forks but they feel lighter!

The Italian transmission only amounts to the single gear shifter and rear derailleur so I don't think that will break the bank!

Oh dear, that suddenly got expensive! Seems that the blue over the white was not for a white steering head and seat tube panel but a respray over the white frame!

Re: Claud Butler Frame ID I'm quite a fan of the solid suntour stuff but not the pressed/stamped bits. Arabesque / 600 doesn't do it for me. My favourite retro Shimano stuff is the EX 400/500 line. I like its plain businesslike functionality.

Re: Claud Butler Frame ID My Japanese Clements is full on Shimano groupsetitus. Which is only fitting really. This one will be built with a proper mix of aesthetically pleasing retro sexual components, which might not be quite age appropriate but will be nice to look at!
