Re: Claud Butler Frame ID Here we go: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vint ... heavy.html Boosh! The only difference I can see is this one has a cable stop at the bottom left hand side of the downtube for the front derailleur. I can find no evidence of the remains of one on my frame.

Re: Claud Butler Frame ID It's been very badly 'drilled out' to take recessed nut but gone all the way through. 'Drilled' is a bit of compliment actually. Brutally enlarged may be a better description. I think you can get mortgages on Campag rear derailleurs nowadays.

Re: Claud Butler Frame ID Guessing it will be worth having a new brake bridge put on then and a proper enamel paint job. I've a pair of Nisi tubular rims I built on to large flange track hubs and an earlyish strong light crankset, got bars, stem, post and BB, and a single bar end shifter which...

Re: Claud Butler Frame ID It seems to match up to this, looking at the back catalogues on nkilgariff it appears the Olympic was a frame only product. So is this a bit of a score for £25?

Re: Claud Butler Frame ID Thanks Chris The chainstays ring with the same pitch as the main tubes, there are no stampings on the rear and front drop outs. The rear drop out width is 120mm.

Y'all I didn't really need another project but this waif and stray came along needing saving ...... Badly hand painted and lots of surface rust. I'm part way through stripping it back to metal. 21 1/2", very thin steel through out, weighs a squeak over 4lbs. Plain gauge not DB. Matching forks...

What brand could this Clements made frame be? Merckx?

This is it polished back. It's not a scratch. Either it's a pre-existing fracture or there was too much heat put into the frame when I had the bosses put on. I'm gutted. So far I'm into the frame £50 plus £10 postage, £15 braze ons, £38 brazing, £15 seat post, £5 paint stripper and abrasives...

Frame ID and first project assistance

I know this bike and I know where you got it from! An absolute bargain! I went to look at it a second time but couldn't bring myself to buy it for parts and split it. That is one seriously good 531 double butted frameset. It rings like a good'un and it's a very very fine piece of craftsmanship...

What brand could this Clements made frame be? Merckx?

Thanks for that chart, the 0.9 thickness of plain gauge x 2 subtracted from 28.6 O.D. plus .2 reamed distortion gives my seatpost size 26.6 Nice bike btw!
