    Oscar Egg build now underway

Forgot to add, as it stands in the pictures it weighs in at 21½ lbs, so with a chain, cables, levers and grips fitted it should come in at about 23 lbs - so it's no clunker (but not really a lightweight)! Mind you it's got to have another 3 coats of paint as well. Ooo - and the SA 5 speed...

    Oscar Egg build now underway

Wow, some good reading there - I'll have a scan through and translate the interesting looking bits - thanks! Meanwhile, tried out a few bits today, another pair of 27" wheels with 5 speed SA hub on Weinmann rim rear and Normandy QR hub on Weinmann rim front - Weinmann 500 brakes will fit and...

    Oscar Egg build now underway

I'm as confused as anyone. In my quest to identify the frame I trawled the internet for similar lugs, the only similar ones are Oscar Egg - but the only ones that are exactly the same are on the bike in the photos 4 & 5 above and the forks are exactly the same too. So, if that's an original...

    Oscar Egg build now underway

Hi, since I've committed myself to making a bike out of this frame I may as well start right at the beginning. This frameset came to me in a clearance joblot a few months ago, didn't know what it was but I liked the lugs/ the size (21.5") and the cast crown forks, so a couple of weeks ago I set...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

I'll take Wozs' advice and start a build thread over in Readers Retro Bikes. Updates may be a bit intermittant as I'm easily prone to getting sidetracked!

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Well, the good news is that the BB is english threaded and Messers Bayliss and Wiley went straight in. Ref the SA 5 speed shifters, that whole handlebar setup and front wheel were built for my Super Lenton which seems to have stalled (as things do), I have the 5 speed SA rear wheel as well but I...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

The wheels in the picture are 27" - from the wheel rack for other projects - I'm thinking 700c for this as i've got some Weinmann rims and some Normandy/ Le Tour hubs. The frame has had some derailleur cable braze-ons added at some time so it'll get a 5 speed Shimano Crane rear and a Stronglight...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Hi, I've unwittingly been dragged in to this thread due to opening my mouth and saying "that looks a nice frame - I'll build a bike out of that". So, not knowing what it was - except for light, old, bent and pretty - I set about it. Removed the Dulux, straightened the frame and forks and tried...

    Wanted 700c Clincher Wheels, Cheap'ish!

Hi, I've a pair of silver Mavic MA2s on Shimano RSX hubs, stainless plain guage spokes. Shimano freehub (think it's a 7 speed). Front 100mm OLN, rear 125mm OLN. Tyres are no good so would not be included, but a very useable pair of wheels - they actually look better than my crappy phone pics...

Hi, showing my limited knowledge here, what are these?

    Ti Raleigh

Possibly the frame builders number, I know for a fact that Mercian did that as a chap walked up to my Mercian, up-ended it and told me it was built by frame builder number 7 - and he was frame builder number 10! No idea if the Worksop builders used the same system though.

    Yet another wotsit

Looking back at my photos, it's got a lot of similar features to my (previously owned) mid 70s Paramount, and my (previously owned) 82 Mercian. Although the numbering doesn't look like Mercian and I don't think Paramounts were numbered, so maybe whoever built it used the same lugs/fittings.

    Raleigh (RRA?) bottom bracket question

As per Bagbuss' reply above, and should be paired with the Raleigh A-16N BB axle. It is unique to the post war Model 26 RRAs. I'd be interested in buying that if it isn't already sold.
