Picked up a TF hub last year, built it into a wheel but have yet to use it - maybe this year. Also picked up an ASC 3 speed fixed hub, so another one on the waiting list.

The saddlebag support is indeed the RRA specific part, clips onto 4 pips and locks in place with 2 swinging plates. Very scarce now, like the pedals and mudguard wingnuts. The second black RRA has got a pair of ulra rare alloy RRA front wheel wing nuts - the only pair I've ever seen. Sorry...

I spend hours rebuilding bikes and even at zero labour costs I often still manage to sell them at a loss - that's a problem with retirement.

If it's a 3 not a 7 that throws a different light on it, as the last 2 digits on a Mercian frame number are the year so I assumed 1978. It's very unlikely your frame is a '38! Sorry.

Frame serial number appears to be 027678, which could be a Mercian from 1978, if so the number 4 would be the frame builder.

I had a couple of tee shirts printed with the image below, I might borrow yours and have another done! (Yes, you could specify an (alloy) chainguard for the RRA!)

One of 3 bikes bought at Newark autojumble yesterday, Carlton International, 95% original. Looks a dead ringer for your bike. Mystery solved? The other 2 were a Falcon Black Diamond and an Elswick Hopper Invincible.

Hi, I'm looking to match up the rim shown in the picture, it's a Weinmann 700c 17 x 622 dimpled alloy rim, 36 spoke, Made in Belgium. I can find un-dimpled ones but not a dimpled one (call me fussy if you like!) Anyone got one in good condition at a reasonable price?
