    Campag 10'spd kit and bits.

You know you got it bad.....

Trawling through the pages of BBC News my heart skipped a beat when I saw, what I thought, for a second or two, was going to be an interesting exposé on Italian bottom brackets. It's been a very, very long day....

What is this that stands before me?

Re: Cheers for the help. Managed to find a pic of how it might have looked. It didn't seem particularly popular as there don't seem to be many pictures of this black/gold model. Never mind, she'll keep me busy for a few weeks.

What is this that stands before me?

Re: Thanks for the help guys. I've discovered the number stamped to the rear of the seat tube. Any clues to what any of it means? I presume the 'N' indicates Nottingham?

WTD: SID or Manitou SX/SXR forks

Re: Sxr forks retrieved from man cave! They look pretty good, but need a service as the adjuster knobs are stiff.

What is this that stands before me?

Hi Keith, there's no fork unfortunately. How long ago were Raleigh using 26 tpi? All the Raleigh's I've had (mainly 70s and 80s) use a standard 24tpi. Cheers.

WTD: SID or Manitou SX/SXR forks

Hi, I've got a pair of Orange Manitou SXR's in my garage. They used to live on my Marin Mount Vision but were long ago replaced and have sat in my garage since 2004. They move but they'll need a good servicing I'd imagine. As far as I remember they're in pretty good nick and the steerer must...

What is this that stands before me?

This frame has come into my possession from someone who knew I liked dabbling in old bikes and £20 seemed fair! It really is rather nice but I don't think it's what it says it is. The bloke I got it from reckoned it was a brand new Raleigh Record frame from the 70s but I beg to differ, so...

    Another daft question.

Re: Thanks for the advice guys. Very kind of you Mr Clockwork, I've got the plastic guide bit so I'll have a rummage 'round my man cave tomorrow to see what's lurking. I may well take you up on your offer though.

    Another daft question.

Right then. There's probably something really obvious I'm not doing here but...you know the little plastic cable guide that sits under the bottom bracket? How does it stay in place? The one I bought has no screw or plastic widget thing to hold it in place and the hole under the bottom bracket...

Disc Brake adapters - any experience?

Re: Thanks for the replies guys. I'm still running the original XT shifters and brakes which are combined in the same unit. They are nice but they don't move as smoothly as they once did or the newer models for that matter, so I guess I could just add the front disc brake and keep the XT v...

A nice bike and at a fair price

Nice bike, and I notice the same seller has a nice 1970s Dawes as well. However, as nonowt mentions, the seller has an ' interesting' P&P policy. Admittedly it looks like his main business is furniture, but I can't recall seeing such bizarre delivery costs. It'd cost £75 to post it to my NE...

Disc Brake adapters - any experience?

I've had a 1998 Marin Mount Vision since new and I ride it regularly. It still kicks ass, albeit with a bigger spring on the rear suspension these days  Over the years almost every component has been replaced/upgraded in some way or another - all except the brakes, which are the...

wtd: Campag brake cable adjuster bolt SORTED! :)

Re: I had the same problem with my Campag adjuster. They're a small fortune to buy individually. I almost bought a new set of calipers which worked out cheaper - but in the end I had an set of non-Campag adjusters which I filed down into the D shape do they fit the hole. They're not Campag, but...
