For Sale 1987 Dawes Super Galaxy Winchester

This was a labour of love but I have to realise that at nearly 70 I am never going to go on that grand tour using it. With the warmer days approaching this would be perfect for long tours or just fun days out. I stripped all parts from the frame and sent the frame for a profession bead blasting...

Interesting! That is exactly what it looks like! I think I might have to strip ff the paint and polish up the alloy!

    Identification of alloy GT frame

I just bought this frame as a project. It was listed as a Zaskar but I don't think it is and at the price I paid I doubt it very much. It has the flat end plate but no serial numbers on the dropout. It also has a strange "scalloped" downtube. Any ideas.

    Carlton Chrome Frame query

Looking at that frame, I would say that it is almost identical to mine. The lugs, the forks, the braze ons on the top tube, all looks right.

I must say I am pleased that my recent find has led to so much discussion. It seems that Carltons were quite a mixed bag by all accounts.

    Carlton Chrome Frame query

Aren't the lugs a bit plain for a 1950s Carlton? What about the frame makes you think it is earlier? It may not be the original fork I suppose.

    Carlton Chrome Frame query

I will have to strip it to do that but it feels reasonable lightweight.

    Carlton Chrome Frame query

Thanks for all the replies. There seems to be some debate around the age but I think I have solved the puzzle on that question. I found this website. http://carltoncycles.uk/dating-carltons-frame-numbers/ Which indeed gives the "F" prefix with four digits as used in 1957/8 BUT this was stamped...

    Carlton Chrome Frame query

I just bought a chrome Carlton frame that has been converted to single speed, straight bar. The frame is in excellent condition and I wish to return it to its former glory. I am trying to work out what model or year this is. It has the frame number on the bottom bracket F7474. It has Zeus...

    Unknown bike any ideas

My seller was firm on the price! :) They said they were just going to take it to the dump. I didn't negotiate! :):):)

So it seems that "smoky" finish was quite popular back in the day. :) I think it must be an Al Carter.
