BT sport rant/ moan/ general grump

How do you actually receive BT Sport? Does it come down the phone line?

    11mm?

I think there were quite a few 7/16" nuts (which an 11mm spanner will fit) on older bikes but they were mostly superseded by 10mm when they went metric. Handlebar stem bolt was another one as I recall.

    The number of the beast???

I had "Onnnne Huuuunnnndrreeed and Eigggghhhhty" on mine until I made this post. :D

    Cotter pins I think.

    White Elephant

I've never managed to find out. The seller said Columbus, but I've never found any evidence to support that. The seat post is the wrong diameter for 531, I think it matched the size for gas pipe but I'm sure it's not that.

    White Elephant

The Pro-Am looks to be a pretty much identical spec to the Criterium, except the Criterium has a 13-24 freewheel. I still find myself running out of gears sometimes, maybe I need to MTFU a bit :D Thank you. That's pretty much how it works, I look at the shininess and decide to keep it. It's...

    White Elephant

This My Carlton Criterium. It's a lovely bike and it rides really nicely, but it's just not the right bike for my purposes. There's no provision for a rack or mudguards and the gearing is too high. I'm sure I could sell it quite easily, but I don't seem to have got round to it yet- I keep...

    700c and 27 in. Clinchers

Where did 26x1 1/4 come into it? That seemed to be the standard size on schoolboy "racers" around the turn of the 80s.

    Pumps

Don't pay £17.99 for that bashed alloy one  , better ones than that turn up on eBay for less money. It doesn't have to be Bluemels, I have an AFA one and a Lapize one that both look the part.

    700c and 27 in. Clinchers

My 1981 Carlton Criterium has 700C wheels that are original, but my 1985 Raleigh Royal had 27" wheels from new according to the catalogue, as did all the other Raleigh models on the same page.

    Shop clearance

Where are you based? I might be interested in the Carlton, do you have any pictures?

    Noisy chain

It's either the travel screws or the mech has been positioned incorrectly. The bike shop should be happy to sort it FOC.

    Repairing a buckled wheel

As predicted, the shop couldn't do anything with it. I've now removed all the spokes, which came out really nicely, and will have a go at sorting the rim out at some point.

    Repairing a buckled wheel

I've left it at a shop, but I plan to do just that if the shop guy doesn't manage- I can justify spending more time on it than he can. I actually built my first front wheel a few weeks ago, although that was starting with a straight rim.

    Repairing a buckled wheel

I left it with a guy who was willing to have a go today, but he wasn't promising anything. The bike is now wearing the cheapest wheel H******s had for sale, which seemed to be the cheapest way to get it back on the road today- which it had to because my son is going home again tomorrow. If the...

    Repairing a buckled wheel

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to buy a new wheel anyway. I'll try the local recycling projects first and buy a new cheapie if they don't have anything suitable, it needs to be done for tomorrow. Repairing the old one would be in preparation for the next time it happens, and I'm sure there...

    Repairing a buckled wheel

My son managed to buckle the front wheel of his Raleigh Eclipse by hitting a manhole cover or something. It's properly buckled, there must be about 10" of the rim affected and it's out of line by about 1/2", though as far as I can tell it's not out of round. It's a Rigida alloy rim in black...
