First bike was a Raleigh Lanton with 4-speed Sturmey Archer. £7.

The date will be when the lug was made, not when the bike was built. A lug from the year before the bike was built is perfectly normal and supports a 74 date for the bike.

They're great. You get the period style of illustration in so many. Advertisements are good too.

The top tube brake cable braze-ons were added from September 1980, so that gives you from perhaps mid 1978 to early 1980 as the window of manufacture. There are plenty of cable clips on ebay.

It is probably 1972/73. Without its original components with dates on, it is difficult to be specific. The frame numbers can sometimes be of some help but there is no definitive factory record of frame numbers for Falcons. This frame is a little unusual in that it doesn't have the usual lugs...
