Okay fair doos...so sounds like a need a decent one and ball bearings or cartridge should both be fine, maybe ball bearing so can shove loadsa grease in...maybe one with a grease port? any suggestions?

Haha, yeah hopefully no cranks will snap! But you can only prepare for what you can prepare for I guess!
I saw the 1 1/8 xc pro headset on ebay, I was wondering if it was worth buying a second hand headset that's cup and cone, wont the cup be slightly worn out? Or will it totally depend...
Re:
I have a threaded fork - no Hope headset for me it seems.
The cartridge bearings will wear, but what I am worried about is a worn out headset rather than worn out bearings...as you replace the surface that the bearings roll across when you replace the bearings, surely the headset itself...
Re:
Oh sorry, didn't see your point about spares...I guess when you need them, you really need em right? and it's not exactly heavy to carry a couple of rings of metal...I don't know what do you think? Do you think it's unlikely that they will wear out at some point on a 15,000 mile trip, a lot...
Re:
Okay great!!
That'll be a good choice then you reckon? Seems more affordable, and it has a low stack height of 27mm - YES! There's no problem with building up a stack height a few mm higher up to 33mm with spacers is there?
Thanks for the extra tip on the cheaper bearings as well! How...
Re:
The Tange Seiki does not seem to have readily available replacement cartridges, that I would definitely want to take with me if I was to go down the cartridge route.
Sounds like maybe cartridge is the way to go then? And take one or two spare sets?
Yeah the Raleigh Yukon looks like this...
Oh I didn't see this post before, thanks! That's really useful! So with my 33mm stackheight requirement, I cannot use a 2Nut then I guess? What I don't get is how the GripNut can have a range of 33.9 to 38.9mm if it has no ability to insert spacers? How do you change its stackheight? Or do you...
Which Threaded Cup and Cone Headsets are Good?
Okay cool! I don't really want to spend that kind of money on a headset anyway!!
So, if I went down the normal cup and cone headset route, what should I be looking for in a headset? Is there a solid choice for really good quality cup and cone...
Headset for adventure tourer
Okay, so that's actually great news...what you seem to be saying is don't spend a phenomenal amount of money on a Chris King (which funnily enough I didn't exactly want to do but had been convinced by cycle bloggers etc that this was pretty essential).
So which...
Hi all!
I intend to cycle tens of thousands of miles across Central Asia and Western Africa, starting in a few weeks!
I am looking to buy a new headset for the Raleigh Yukon, which is my steed of choice (or steed at least)! ...so I was thinking of a Chris King 2Nut Threaded Headset 1 1/8 inch...

Hi all,
Don't suppose anyone else has a perfect sized frame for this purpose that they want to sell me? I'm 6ft2" and going with Justin on this trip to India!
Also as another matter, does anyone have any experience of dyno hubs? A friend who did a big tour recently on one and I rode his...
