Yes, they usually run two or three races per year. The Winter Classic towards the end of February each year and then a Spring or Summer race (sometimes both). The organisers also run the National XC Series round at Cannock too at the same location (5th & 6th of April this year).
Just a heads up that entries close on Sunday for the Cannock retro xc race. It's looking like a decent entry for the retro race so it should be fun!
There are 450+ entered across all the categories... Not bad for an XC race in February!
Perry Bellisario has just added some videos from 1994 and Caroline is riding this bike in the World Champs, the UK World Cup Race and when she won the British Champs in 1994.
Nice piece of XC race history!
The links to the videos are below but here's a screenshot.... Happy Viewing :)
It's always a fun event and pretty relaxed... Personally, I'd rather see old bikes being ridden than worrying too much about specific parts not being quite the correct era.
The bikes I've raced at Cannock have been approximately period correct builds except for perishable parts like tyres...
Its great to see another 93 Stratos! I picked up a frameset before Christmas and yours gives me a bit of inspiration... The paint on mine isn't great but I'm really looking forward to throwing some parts on it and getting out on it now!
Retro XC Race Alert!
Entry is now open for the Retro XC Race at the Cannock Chase Winter Classic on the 23rd of February 2025! It's always a great day out riding old bikes on a fully rideable old school xc course. Where there is a technical section, there is an easier 'B' line.
It's always...
Yep going on the Saturday and Sunday! Riding in the retro xc race with my son on matching (ish) 1992 Orange Aluminium Elites... Really looking forward to it!
That's awesome news Paul!
My son and I will be lining up on a pair of Orange Aluminium Elites... Really looking forward to it :)
I think there are nearly 30 entries with six weeks still to go... Wouldn't it be amazing if there were over 50 of at the start!
Here’s my 1990 Saracen Limited Edition that I’ve had since new. Most parts have been changed (including removing some of the original decals when I was a teenager…) but it was based on a Traverse frame with a Deore Lx groupset.
I think the Limited Edition model was a way of using some leftovers...
I ordered some of the folding Z Max in 26" and was really impressed with them and quick delivery. They do come up narrow (more like a 1.9) but bang on 500g which is pretty light... So I ordered another pair... and some 26"Peyotes... and some CX tyres... and some handlebars... I was going to get...
