Raleigh Dynatech 405ti Corsa; what to do?

Sure - I wasn’t meaning to be sniffy about either of those groups, by the way, so I hope it didn’t seem that way. RSX is very decent for what it is, really. I just remember being a bit disappointed with the build quality of Xenon.
No need to apologise. I was just clarifying my intentions for these to be temporary options until the wheels are rebuilt. I was not getting upset lol

Let me take you through the fevered mind of retro biker trying to fit this project in around work, childcare, family incidents/accidents etc......I am sure you are all the same 😁

Damn the donor bike with the Xenon groupset is an alloy frame so the FD clamp will be too big for the Dynatech.......can I shim it???

Popped out with the digital calipers when I had 5 minutes......as suspected the alloy frame has a bigger downtube. The other donor bike is steel and of the same diameter dt as thd Raleigh. 1 point for the RSX groupset.

Maybe I could just swap the wheels for now. I hope the Exage downtube shifters can run in friction mode as the indexing is bound to be off/incompatible between Campy and Shimano! Must check that......

Kids are sleeping in. Time to slope off outside with a cup of coffee to admire the bike and check it's shifters 😁

Oh ok, they are 7 speed running in friction mode to shift the 9 speed cassette. I did think 9 speed was a bit modern for the bike to be original fitting! So the other donor bike with 7 speed RSX groupset earns another point. 2-0 to Shimano.

Yay! I have options......
Boo, I have options.....
Now I have make a choice. Time to dither and fret unnecessarily over a choice of 4 options none of which is wrong lol

2 quick options....I can fit the wheelset from either donor bike straight away.
2 longer options....I can check over, clean fettle and fit either full donor groupset.

I am erring on fitting the 7 speed Shimano wheelset to hopefully get indexed gears. Plus I think the wheelset will be more aesthetically matched to the bike. Shallow, silver rims rather than black aero rime, spokes and gaudy italian decals!

What say the retro masses on a sunny Easter Sunday?

That made me chuckle. Shimano and sympathetic is my vote. Don't listen to me though or you'll be under a pile of bikes 🫣

I have Xenon 9spd Fd with 32mm clamp and Shimano shims for 28.6mm seat tube, I can test how they fit together if you want. The 7spd with RSX brifters would be easiest to do and in my opinion fit better with the other Shimano components on the bike, but personally I like the look of the campy brifters.

Thanks for the offer, I am sure it would work.

I will get riding her quickly via the 7 speed wheelset but suspect I will eventually give the full campy xenon groupset a go on the bike just to try it. I have never ridden a Campy bike before so am intrigued lol
