I’ve found that using spontex pads (basically a coiled fine wire scrubbing pad used for washing/scrubbing dishes etc) is a great way of removing rust scabs and spots from steel and chromed tubes when using GT85 spray lube as a wetting/lubing agent to help the process. Some people use Cocoa Cola and tin foil but I definitely prefer my method and have had great results on some very challenging frames in the past .

I have a scabby nickel P7 frame that needs some love, might well get the spontex and lube out. Same (ish) vintage as yours
