Can't find my bottom bracket tool so I ordered a new one today
Most of the Sachs is in very poor condition, LH crank arm threads were nearly all gone but it came off, sadly the popo postcoded them on the outside , plastic stuff is all a bit faded but on the good side I found a Sachs rear derailleur in the shed that will work well instead of the alivio.
Question ... This doesn't have a tubing decal, am I right in thinking these are Reynolds 501 or did some come through as 531? It's identical in all but size to the Jo Burt edition. Forks and stem are 531, bars are 501
Wouldn't mind seeing the old advert scans from MBUK, sure they were here somewhere but just can't find them.
boy o boy - the British weather is not doin good to poor steelframes
I laid my hands on many frames here in mainland Europe, but never, never had such damages. And most of the frames and bikes had seen propper use and also some missed TLC and even spent their lives outside, prone to the weather, but such "traces" of rust I never spottet
looking forward seeing what your magic hands can do with this, otherwise, lovely bike will watch with interest.
Found the bottom bracket tool (typical)... Came out easy and clean inside, The chap did say he use to ride it in dalby forest regular then it got retired to the spare runaround with a kid seat on the back then over to Europe for pub/hack bike for a while, it's certainly worked hard to get to this point in its life and I hope I got to it in time but We have a saying here in Yorkshire
The catalogue says they were built from a full Reynolds tubeset, unique to Zinn. A mixture of 501 and 531 I think. Maybe they got whatever decal was at hand. I’ve seen Classics with 501 and 531 decals
