Hi everyone, very new to retro bike, going to give A go. I have bought an early aluminium Yeti Frame serial number WF02 0378 could anybody help date it,I’ll try and attach some photos, thanks dobby
Saw this one on eBay a while ago; unfortunately this has nothing to do with Yeti..
The fact that the decals say Yeti, doesn't make it a frame from that heritage, I'm afraid.
Early Yeti aluminum frames were the ARCs with characteristically looped rear stay and cracking headtubes, just Google them.
You can enjoy building and riding your frame nonetheless, I can only hope you didn't pay the price of an aluminum Yeti for it !
Hi,thanks for the reply, I have done some research on retro bike and found these early Yeti pictures, which show some with straight rear stays, two from 1991 and one from 1995, dobby
Well will you look at that : it's always nice to be educated!
I still think that both frames show quite distinct differences, for example regarding cable guides, canti bridge and dropouts.
Yeti, helped design and make the frame, I did buy the frame of eBay, On a whim, we will wait and see what comes back from the States. Thankyou for your replies, but remember fortune favours the brave, lol sometimes. Dobby
Like above i don't think this is a Yeti, the '91 picture you posted is a prototype, the production '92 Yeti's had the continuous stays. What makes you think it is a Yeti?
Take a look at the evolution of the frames from the prototype of 1991 to John Tomac’s 1995 factory built hardtail, there’s another on retro bike from the 1992 Bike show, built by Yeti designed by Chis Herting with the help from Johnny O’ Mara, but I can’t get the picture to down load, it’s to big, but it’s on the site, dobby
