XT M739 Chainset Question.

Thanks.

Considering I just bought a 4-bolt Middleburn 32T ring, and that a change to 5-bolt pattern would mean buying all 3 rings to fit the 5 bolt spider.....
I think I'll scour ebay for the XT 4-bolt outer ring, and if worst comes to worst then I have a source where I can hopefully buy one new :D

Many Thanks.

And here it is in action on my much lamented 856 :(

I have a pair of these cranks with the same spider. What size chainrings do I need?

Sorry I am a newb.

My middle ring is worn out too.

Shimano made a spider that you could fit to these cranks that accepted conventional chainrings.

If it's actually available, this is a very good price:

Petra also have the LX version which is exactly the same but only £20 :)

I have both types & hopefully just picking up a spare XT set today( with the fixed outer/spider)

I just replies on a thread somebody dug up from 2008 in wanted

But if you want to stay 4-bolt an use your inner and middle ring, the find an MC-40 STX-RC chainset/arms none of this era crank arms seem to fetch much so it's also cheaper to get the 5-bolt spider this way.

you'll need the lockring tool as well, don't cost much and you'll see them as middleburn/M950 lockring tools or even M950 bottom bracket tools. CRC sell them. 7 or 8 quid.

This one showing front and back http://s1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... C%20Crank/
sold for about £20

Big shiny pic.

And Shimano did make the FC-M739 in 5-arm themselves of course. The spider is the same part 17N1700 that Petra (or any other Shimano dealer) will sell you.
