WTD: Pre 1987 Road Bike for 2014 L'Eroica - 54cm-ish

Hi

one of my colleagues is doing the 2014 UK L'Eroica. Only thing is he doesn't own a road bike, never mind a pre-1987 road bike.

He's after something around 54cm in frame size (not much bigger, I think a 56 will be way too big). Complete bike needed, period correct.

Now the downside, he's not looking to pay a fortune as he will 'probably' only use this bike for this event. Budget is approx £250................maximum. He fully appreciates he's not going to get an Italian Stallion at this price. He'll be happy as long as it gets him round the route without too much tinkering.

Anyone got something suitable? Closer to Newcastle will be a bonus for collection!
