Ok own up, who else just buys it if the price seems reasonable and then sticks it in a box.

I Just bought an XT rear hub for no good reason and i've bulk bought my favourite stem as well.

i don't buy it for any other reason than to use it.

i search for the part i want by model, if some NOS turns up and it's the right part at a good price i'll buy it.

i don't stockpile stuff, but if i buy a load of parts for a build, build the bike, use it, then decide i don't like the bike i then sell the frame but keep the parts for the next frame, saves buying it all over again.

:)

NOS is New. It's going to work*, it doesn't have the possibility of being worn, battered or have stress you cannot see.

*as well as it ever would have.

Cassettes usually work better with a new chain if they're nos (and it's hard to tell the wear). Other than that i'm fine with lightly used stuff.

Most of the nos bits I've bought tend to be gear related and the lack of good parts due to age has meant it's been worth that bit extra.

Plus I can put the old parts back on if I ever sell and keep the nos for the next one.

If I am lucky enough to happen on nos at a reasonable price then I will buy, but will not if the price is not right and then I am left with used, which so far has been fine, I have never managed to find a totally stuffed part, which perhaps gives testimony to the quality of build from bitd, what's it like now, are parts as well built?

Recent nos includes purple Uno kalloy stem and M65/t cartridge brakes, both of which I was looking for and got for a very satisfactory price and cheaper than bitd.

did you leave out a "no" option for your poll question, on purpose, assuming we all buy NOS?

In my book, there are two reasons to buy NOS:
1. With rarer items, to collect and keep that way.
2. With common items, like shimano parts, to ensure that they will work once you put them on, and to get the most life out of it, on your period correct rider.

I do. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be NOS.

Much of it I intend on using but there are a number of things I bought just because it was cheap.
