While they looked cool at the time..

Clue is in your question..
:)

Oh trust me I know. I replaced brand new XT rapid-fire shifters and canti's so that I could get the cool clear grip shift and IBC Hydroceps brakes. The shifters broke and the front brake failed several times.

ive always had an on/off interest in Gripshift, at times I find them too clunky/noisy and occasionally requiring too much force, plus they don't feel particularly luxurious - but sometimes I feel like a change and enjoy their intuitive action and clean looks.

I'd live to try the new Sram 11/12sp jobbies though, their action is supposed to be stunning in comparison

Re:

Didn't realize it was the clamping down that would crack these, I bought some NOS ones recently and had better loosen them off a tad

Re: Which were the SRT-800 x-ray gripshifts that would crack?

So I've fitted some NOS Yeti grips to my SRT600, but have rediscovered that the transition areas from grip to gripshift are at different levels (the shifter being chunkier/thicker than the main grip?).
Does anyone know which aftermarket grips offer a level transition? I note on pic above a nice level transition on the OEM grips.
