Aside from a wheelstand and a good spoke wrench, what else do you use? Do any of you invest in a tensiometer, or any other tools?

no worry's mate use's are

1. matches. you put the non-fire end of the match into the round head end of the nipple then you can put it into the rims eyelet and spin it onto the spoke once its threaded on to the spoke a bit you just pull on the match and it comes out ;) save's loads of time and is cheap

2. dt spoke driver is like a screwdriver you use it one handed this pc will explain http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/38 ... river.html get it :D :D

3. the park tools wag 4 to check the wheels dish http://www.parktool.com/products/detail ... item=WAG-4

4. wet lube on spoke threads and in the eyelet help when building it up to keeps things smooth

5. good music to keep smooth and relaxed like bedding a fine women you have to keep your cool

Don't do many so don't have fancy stuff ; I use a small reversible screwdriver bit as it's easy to spin in your fingers when adding the turns , I rarely use a spoke wrench . Finish line lube and a couple bits of kitchen roll to wipe your fingers . Only ever use a stand and dishing tool at work , I don't have my own . A cup of tea and a joint is a must , the most expensive thing is attention , you have to pay a lot of attention .

you forget cake mate

You'll also need a big can of "patience" with your first few wheels!
Don't rush it; do 1 step and walk away. Otherwise all you'll achieve is a big mess...

I did my 1st ones using an old frame and forks; not ideal when you have a lefty, but then bought a minoura home building kit. Comes with stand and dishing guage for £80. Bit flimsy for everyday use but ok.
DT nipple driver is good, but expensive.

If you can find a copy of "the art of wheelbuilding", it goes through step by step, in an easy to build way, compared to some of the manhandling of spokes i've seen by the so called shop experts.

Very rewarding once you've built a few

I like the matches idea--I'll have to try that.

I use:

- grease (for the nipples, of course  )
- nipple driver
- spoke wrench
- park truing stand
- a tensionometer
- my laptop (so I can listen to tunes, a movie, or a game.)
