What's your most hated bike job....? Me, rebuilding hubs...

Never have any trouble getting mechs to drop right, setting brake blocks however...
Blood-boiler.

Cables are nice if you're using fresh new stuff - I'm forever trying to reuse odd lengths from the (massive, mis-matched) stash which is a royal pain. So it's my own fault for being so tight really!

I thought it was just me. I have a shopping bag full of ld bits of cable!

I don't want to sound like a total c*ck here (but am obviously about to), but assuming that nothing's bent, indexing gears is an absolute doddle - I'm not quite sure what's happening to make it miserable for folks?!

Never had a problem with them myself either...

rear indexing is so simple a baby could do it.

Front indexing isn't hard, it's just stupid and pointless. I'm going 1x next time I rebuild my MTB, and I have campag on the road bikes.

Apart from cleaning really dirty and neglected bikes, there aren't really any jobs that I don't enjoy.

Hubs are quite nice to work on. I've just completed my set of cone spanners...

Re:

Blimey....

I had to borrow some from my old bike shop boss, mine were slightly...bent...when I eventually found them. Testament to past frustrations, no doubt.

It's not so much the actual rebuilding of the hub as much as the fine tuning of the cones. Oh, though discovering wrecked cones and loosing 3 ball bearings down the middle of the axle caused some interesting comments which amused the neighbours...

Re:

Anything chain related. Generally messy, oily nastiness. Even though I've learnt how to clean them properly they're still a right arseache.

99% of dealing with the ball ache is having the right tools and knowing how to use them.
