What was Your teen bike dream? Is the reality as good?

Obviously there were a few from which ever era you hark, but if you are lucky enough to own your teenage dream machine, is it as good as you thought it would be or was it better left as a dream?

What's it like now you're all grown up and own one (or ten) of them?

Me, was always an RC100 and an '88 Stumpy in Magenta Pink and Denucci Green for me. Never owned either, but did have an RC200 for five years and loved it.

Mine was a Pace and a San Andreas. Have got the latter but not the former. San Andreas has lived up to expectations and I still love it....

When I got my first Specialised Rockhopper I dreamed of a Cannondale that was in the shop at the time. A few years later I borrowed a Cannondale for a few rides and my dreams were shattered. The Rockhopper was a far better bike.

Then I dreamed of a Rocky Mountain Blizzard which i bought... and broke, and broke, and broke. Next came the Trek OCLV's with the same outcome.

I ordered a Yo but Evolution sent up the wrong size as it was all the stock they had - I couldn't wait the months for the next batch so bought the Explosif I still have as a stopgap. I never meant to keep the Kona but it's such a great bike and despite my best efforts I haven't broken it terminally yet.

I've always lusted for a Dogs Bolx, Donkis Nob, Fuquay or Cats Wiskas: But I always needed a bike ASAP when I broke the last one so could never do the ordering and waiting thing.

Shop would not sell me a Pace due to my bike breaking history :cry:

As to riding the bike of my dreams... I'll let you know when I've finished building the Lloyd (hopefully tonight)

Well I always wanted a Specialized S-works M2 Team bike when I was young. Just about my whole room was decorated with posters and pics of ol' Ned riding one. That would be the red version with yellow decals. One of them guys at the LBS had one of those, and he still has it (spoke to him a few months ago, and this is like 15 years ago). Anywayz, I ended up buying a Stupmjumper FS (first version) and loved it btw. Still have it and rebuilding it.

But last year I got the chance of getting me an S-works M2 Team from 1996 in "midget-size" and finished rebuilding it a few weeks ago. I rode it a couple of times and I must say I love it a lot more than my Scott Scale 20. Maybe it's because it ain't as stiff? So I guess a model from 1991-1992 would be just as nice? Mine's got a Judy FSX in it with Englund Total Air cartdridges and that fork really rocks!!

So errr, bladiebladiebla and yadda yadda yadda and I guess mine is as good as I dreamed (if I had gotten it sooner I would've NEVER bought that Scott, although it look cool of course and I never had disc brakes before).

The GT RTS came out, and I really wanted that bike. But bringing papers around didn't bring me the money for the bike. Then the LTS came, and then I thought: I will buy that one, no matter when.
In 1996 I joined the navy and that gave me the money to get my dreambike.
I bought it in the US and this year the bike will be it wil be 10 years old.
Last year a total rebuild and it still rides as good as then. Only a midlife update and it's unrecognisable changed due all alther parts and new decals.

I have always sold all my bikes to fund the new one and thourighly wish I hadn't now. Would have some great frames knocking about. Especially miss the Merlin Echo. So stupid letting that one go. And for what? I'm sure I've blown the money on rubbish since.

And the Pace. And the Trekker and the... and the...and the...

If only I could dicipline myself and stop buying bits I don't really need in order to keep the frames I don't really want to sell.

There's a lesson in there somewhere...I'm going to re-read and learn.

Rode Diamondbacks for years, so lusted after the Axis TT... not got one yet, but I'm not fussed enough anymore to fork out the inflated Ti prices. Contemplated a normal Axis on the cheap recently, but figured I'd never ride it.

Then I got an Orange & wanted a Vit - the same goes as the above tbh! But one day maybe...
