I just can't "do" even close to my face down ass up riding position these days, and while I refuse to ditch bar ends and narrow bars I couldn't ride more than 15mins without severe discomfort/numb hands without raising the bars.

Same goes for shorter stems.

...weirdly enough, carbon bars. They indeed are not essential but for their dampening properties, strength and low weight, they are damned fine.
