What damage have you done to a bike in a fit of temper?

After my fit of peak today (see here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... highlight=) I now have a dented 853 frame

Made me wonder, what have others here done in a blind rage to their bikes?

Did you lose a race and throw the bike over the hedge buckling the wheels and scratching the frame in the process?

Did you gouge your knuckles fixing something and smash the offending part into a million pieces with a large hammer?

What's your story?

Historic Savannah Century (Georgia, USA) at the tale end of a 100 mile organized road tour, my computer clearly said '100'...we had been riding in an industrial area for the last few miles of the tour and my bum was killing me. Came to a sweeping corner and I convinced myself that just around the corner was the finish line. Came around the corner and found...4 sets of railroad crossings and a big ass hill!

I was so let down that I threw down my Klein Quantum and stomped on it. Other riders were asking me if I needed tools or anything, and as they passed I'd scream at them like a madman. Finally calmed down and puttered up the hill to the finish. What can I say? It was summer in the south, I was hot and tired and wasted and I wanted off the bike. Period.

Went home and stared at what I'd done, even more depressed. Then I put the Klein on MTBR and sold it. I didn't own another road bike for 6 years!

Everyone loses it once in a while. Years from now you can look back on your dent and it will just be another story in the history of the bike. ;)

yep! i've done the knuckle gouge! at a shop i used to work in we had a "beater bike" anytime someone or somethimg pissed us off it got the hammer!

after ripping my knuckles removing a seized b/b i went to town on it, full on medieval!!! :D :x

it used to get thrown at the walls of the back of the shop, anything to destroy it really!

it was a gas pipe 15speed green apollo style heap that got left by a customer who didn't want it.

poor thing!

I was riding in the ESCA National Championship road race, feeling really good and in the lead pack, and then my rear mech went tits-up and wrapped itself up and into my cassette :x

I got off and hurled the bike into the grass.....I was fuming

So, adding to my already trashed rear mech, I buckled my rear wheel and ripped the bar tape

Ok, I can live with that......but you feel such a cock when you have to go back to your bike and pick it up!

Fits on peaks....

Apart from hurling a snapped rear mech deep into Glentress forest I can't recall losing it big time. I do remember fondly my best mate Gaz, complaining for 15 miles up and over some mammoth tracks in the Cheviots that he had a sore thumb. The cause was a threaded thumbshifter bolt that meant he was riding with his thumb holding the mech in gear. Needless to say the situation got the better of him eventually. I crested the last climb of the day a minute behind to find him mid spin as he hurled his early Rockhopper off the edge of the hill! I stopped at a safe distance laughing as he climbed down the hill to retrieve his bike. After his paddy was a great downhill to the car so at least he was smiling on the way home.

threw a naughty mech out of the back garden, couldnt ride for weeks. had one those rear 'brake lights' - smashed every part of it with a hammer until dust.

took a hammer to a naughty frame...

as I got older and electric tools were made available - took a grinder to a naughty frame.

ever made a 6'7" bloke cry? I did, he pissed me off so much (long story) that I picked up his custom built tange tubed special and in a fit of rage, threw it about 20 feet into the drive across the way - still to this day dont know how it went so far.

calm... breath.... relax... ;)
