I am trying to bring the weight of my bike down, i currently ride with Chris King Hubbed wheels but these do not seem very light,..
I am going for an all titanium theme on the bike,..what wheel set would you recogment?
and are there besides Morati other titanium cranks, or other material which is light and still retro?

Hi Bas,

Don't know if you want your hubs to be titanium, but in the really lightweight retro hubs... I would say TUNE... I've got a Tune rear hub from the early 90's that weighs in at 215g. It's one of the first Tune hubs ever produced... In '97 I bought a MIG75R and a MAG160. These made it to 601g/703g with a set of Mavic 517 and 56 DT revolution spokes... Now the hubs are spoked on ZTR's, but I didn't weigh 'm yet.. don't know if the Tunes are Titanium enough nor do I not know if that's retro enough...

Oh yeah... about the cranks... IBS (Germany) made some titanium cranks... so did Onza (cast titanium cranks).. but I think these are even rarer than the Morati cranks...

It's a sad life when Chris King wheels are no longer good enough.

They would like you to send them to me, because I would love them for their own special qualities and not forsake them for something lighter just because somebody overtook me on some hill.
;)

Hey Bas, you should try the wheels on my Schwinn. Araya 2.125 steel rims with Atom drum brake hubs, built up with motorcycle spokes. With tyres and tubes the front wheel weighs 10lbs, the rear wheel a whopping 14lbs. Your Chris Kings will feel so much lighter after a day with my wheels on your bike.

93-95ish....Mavic 230's with GT or White Industries and 15/16 DB spokes. Have a few sets like these and you can't go much lighter in older wheels.
Early 90's 7 spd rear.... rolled down bontragers with the Ultegra front and XT rear combo with DB spokes.
