Nothing that hasn't been done before but I've longed for one for quite some time. Took a fair amount of time to get this all together although not 100% period but quite close. Rear triangle & forks de-anodised and then polished. Thousands of tiny yellow paint spots removed from the frame. Ride is lovely, helped by the quality tubs, only downside is the brake-blocks - absolutely dire. Will replace with something better when I find some.

Cheers Robster. The Mavic stuff is great (if it's in good condition!). I think it's the Simplex shifters that allow the friction action to be fine-tuned that makes the shifting a pleasure. Certainly the nicest friction shifters i've used. The 851 derailleur is nice & light and travels across the freewheel with ease. Managed to get 7 gears on the back and wasn't sure how well it would work but it's spot on.

Oh my, it's stunning. You've built it so so well

I bought a NOS 979 track bike earlier this year and I've warmed to aluminium (just a little)
I even bought a second 979 road bike, although I just sold it to a friend, and an Alan Super Record

Never seen those pedals before either, are they first generation ones?
Also liKe the outer cable for the rear mech. What is it?

It's anything but hard, very smooth indeed. Combination of lugged construction & quality tubs.
Indeed, first Look pedals from 84/85 using the binder technology from ski boots. As used by Hinault in the 85 TDF.

It is very light - a lot to do with the Mavic group but also the GL330 rims - they're super light even by todays standards.
Afraid it's way too small for you Mike
