What have you got and what do you want for it folks?

17" too big? Hardrock frame and forks £35 posted. I have no idea on kids sizes as mine are not that old yet!

think it will be to big orange, thanks for the suggestion- toptube lenght is prob the problem- I would like a zasker or dale but think they might be hard to come by, hence why I'm starting the search in jan

Had same problem finding frames for my kids. But after I'd found something then 2 more came up.

You'll have no luck for months and then loads to choose from all at once..

My lads (9 and 10) are running 38cm frames with 26" wheels. Top tube length is not an issue even though I thought it would be.

Selection is limited but out there.

what bike did you end up getting?

a 9 year old would be fine on a 26" wheeled bike, not sure about controlling a 26"er though.

Specialized make some nice HotRock bikes in 24", and occaisionally they are retro, but they are normally heavier and without suspension (and corrected frames I would guess).

yeah control might be an issue I agree, my first proper bike was a racer and I remember my feet lifting off the pedal at the bottom of the downstroke  Mind you it was the 70's and a multitude of dangers were ok back then.
