Unused DOGS BOLX F&F

Re:

A pretty unique opportunity! But agree that's on the high side. I'm off to buy a lottery ticket.
Look forward to seeing the photo's though.
Can't quite imagine how you invest that much in a custom build and then leave it in the attic (I suppose health issues are a possibility).

There's folk on here with bikes worth more than that stuffed away in a dusty attic, probably NOS frames with NOS parts put on them too!

Retro mtb prices seem to be out-inflating inflation, even run of the mill budget retro mtb's seem to be demanding high prices these days (not saying they sell at the asking price though).

Re:

Doesn't really make sense to me.

Not too much difference to this and any other DB that's in (very) good condition with a fresh paint job.

I guess the fork and stem are nice but still

Re:

MTB'ers seem a more practical lot, there is very little of the 'it's only original one' idea that crops up with road bikes.

I guess there is some value in an unused frame, but a thing is only worth what you can sell it for and the cost when new is immaterial.

Re:

Was wondering if it has been squirreled away all this time or if it might have been picked up at Robert's closing down auction last year? Did anyone see the auction list?

The advertised DOGS frames were all much more recent, disc brake models, iirc. So unlikely to have come from there, unless there were some 'back of the workshop' frames which never made the sale list.

Possibly because when m/bikes get used in their intended capacity, the frames often become banged up and scratched fairly quickly ... whereas a road-bike frame really doesn't suffer the same lot, under use?

Yes I think that, and also that relatively speaking mtb's are pretty new when compared to road bikes from as far back as the turn of the century and certainly more commonly for the 40's or 50's, still in original paint with fancy lugwork and lining.

For me, custom made steel frames are supposed to get repainted every few years anyways, notwithstanding custom fancy pants jobs, team bikes etc
