Had this for a while now, and only remember I hadn't put it on here...
(the build is so-called as my Uncle Bob, now sadly departed, was a massively good egg and is coincidently shares the surname...)
It was always my first attempt at the foolish classic newbie idea to make a bike that will do everything - though realistically it will be a vintagey looking (though with far too many anachronisms to call it purely vintage) bombproof (i.e. weighing a ton!) steed that will get me to and from work, and hopefully one day join me on at least one cycle holiday. Out of London.
Oh, and I'm doing the 75k route to (and from) Roubaix in April so building it with 28's and mudguards. Originally I was hoping to use it for sportier purposes, though it simply weighs too heavy to oust my current Colnago Mexico (and soon to arrive Colnago Oval CX)
A few of the features of the build:
Alfine hub
S&S Couplers
Internal brake routing
Cyclocross levers on the top tube
Racks (by Velo Orange)
Bags and all leather trim by Gilles Berthoud
I did have that rear light braze on that some trendy Rene Hearse types have, though between ordering and receipt I changed to centerpulls, so will had to shift the light up via a bent Surly hanger
Curvy rear seat stays (spent too long looking at Hetchins on Google images)
Arrowhead lugs
Here's it received
Sent it to the LBS to put on the BB and HS, and started to dress it
And here it is yesterday (saddle was taken from an old bike, will be replaced)
Took receipt of the finshing bits (saddle, tape etc) and should hopefully have the completed shots this weekend,a nd will update with better shots
